It seems your map data(base) may have been corrupted. Have you tried restoring the data from your backup ?
or you can try running a (fix) disk utility against your (internal or external) storage disk for the GPS ?
For instance, connect the GPS to your PC (Windows), and select (highlight) the (internal) "disk" on the GPS device. Under File - Properties, go to the Tools (tab) and run the "Error-Checking" option.
Running this utility may fix your map data error.
If not, you'll want to get a new map ...

Hi, see the picture below. Before replacing the MAP sensor, check the vacuum line for leaks. If the vacuum is good and you have a voltmeter, check the signals. With the key on, there should be 5 volts DC between the outer terminals of the connector. Don't take it off--just stick your meter probes in the back of the connector until they touch the bare wires. If you don't have 5 volts there, the problem is not the sensor--it's the wiring or the computer. If you do have 5 volts there, check the voltage from the white wire to either of the other 2. That voltage should be between 1 and 5 volts, and it should change a lot when you start the engine. If it doesn't change at least a couple of volts, the sensor is probably bad. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.
You don't say where you are. I'm presuming that you're in the USA and have a map of Canada on your satnav. If so press WHERE TO and then ADDRESS. When you press address the country it's set to is shown at the top of the screen. At the bottom there's a bar which says CHANGE COUNTRY (if you have a second country on your map) Press CHANGE COUNTRY and type CANADA. You should then be able to set Canadian addresses.
Most garmin nuvi satnavs take 4 hours to charge with a mains charger or a car charger. It takes 8 hours with a computer. There's a batter indicator on the screen that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP. It will probably only appear when the charger is disconnected if it's the same as other garmin nuvis.
The problem with trying to put the full map of Europe on the 250 is that it doesn't have enough storage space. You can download the complete map however to your computer. The option to download again is available for approx 30 days. When it's on your computer you can select which maps you want to install to the satnav and install the complete map, if you want, to an SD card. You need a 4 Gb SD card to hold the complete map. To download the map again, to your computer, log into myGarmin. Click on the myMaps tab at the top of the screen. There you'll see the map you downloaded. Under the map name you'll see the word "Details" in blue. Click on "Details" and it will take you to a screen where you have the option to download the map again. When you go to download the map it will by default select your satnav as the destination. Change it to your computer so you get the whole map and you can add or remove maps whenever you want.
You need to have your satnav registered with garmin. Log into myGarmin and click on the myMaps tab at the top of the screen. If you don't already have a map of the Philippines click on "buy more maps" and follow the prompts. If you already have a map that you just want to update you can get details of how to update it at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps You can also get details there of how to register your satnav with garmin if you haven't already done so.
Please note that if this is not an update it's unlikely that your nuvi 255W will have enough space to hold a second map. If you're not updating or replacing a map I would advise against buying it as a second map. It is possible to install a second map to a memory card but there is a risk that it may not work. Memory cards in garmin satnavs appear to be very hit and miss. Some work and others don't for no aparent reason.
1. It's most likely that the map has become unselected.
Press TOOLS (The spaner icon on the bottom right of the screen showing WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
Press SETTINGS (The spanner icon) or LOCALE if your model doesn't have a settings icon.
Press MAPS
At the bottom of the screen press MAP INFO
You'll see the name of any maps installed and there should be a tick beside them if they're selected. If there's no tick press the map name and it will tick them. That may solve your problem.
In the unlikely event that there's no map name when you press MAP INFO it would mean that the map has been deleted and needs to be reinstalled. To reinstall the map;
Connect your satnav to your computer with the mini USB lead
Go to www.garmin.com, click on myGarmin and log in.
Click on the myMaps tab at the top of the screen.
You'll see the name of the maps you have on your satnav and under the name in blue writing the word "details"
Click on "details" and it will take you to a screen where you may be able to download the map again depending on how long it has been since you last downloaded it.
You must have the maps for Canada. Many units come with these maps, but some don't. Try entering a Canadian address to see if it comes up with it. If you don't have the maps on disk, or something else happens, call Magellan at 800 707 9971 .
