My speakers only work one at a time...

If i get the one that's not working to do something, the working one dies out and does the exact same that the other was doing. if i poke at the volume knob just right, both work- but for maybe 5 minutes at a time. sometimes the non-working one just puts out bass, other times it sounds like the speaker is blown(which it's not, obviously) and sometimes it doesnt do anything at all. hopefully somebody knows what to do b/c im stumped

it's gotta be something else b/c the whole deal is all color coded- i've got it all set up right and what not... i think it just hates me and wants to drive me insane.

Check you have plugged them into the correct socket on the back of the PC ..

Chances are you have 3 sockets - first = 'front' (or pair), middle = 'back' (for 4+ speaker sets) and last = 'center & sub-woofer' ..

Sounds like you have plugged into the 'center & sub-woofer' socket :-)

Rear speakers not working

Most radios will blow, left or right, or front or back speakers. Rarely will two speakers die at the same time. Even though rear speakers are in direct sun light most the time. Replace the radio...Just a note though. If you have an amplifier. This could (and most likely be) your problem. Amps create a lot of heat and are the first to die...

Little or no low frequency (bass) sounds

It does not die with age, something has failed. Either the speaker or the amp or preamp for the bass. Who told you it dies with age?

NO SOUND

the make and model of your computer dont matter to what speakers you hook up. i can take those speakers and plug them into my ipod, my computer, even my psp and will work.

i would first check ALL wiring and make sure is all conected corectly.

try plugging them into your ipod/mp3 and see if you hear sound? if not, its the speakers. If yes lets move on.

Plug them into your audio jack on your computer (THE BACK, Green audio Jack) usually your front audio jack if you have one is set to head phones and your rear audio jack is set to speakers.

Plug them in.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Sound.

Now make sure your speakers are conected and it notices it.

Me i have 3 Input devices that show up.

1) Speakers
2) Headphones or Audio 2nd Output
3) Digital Output

If you plug them into the back they will most likely but under #1.

Click Option #1 or the one that is labeled speakers and says "plugged in"

Towards the bottom select, Set As Default.

Apply Changes, Ok, and exit.

Now try listening to something on your computer.

If this still doesnt work, let me know.

Thanks

5.1 GMX ProMedia Issue

The jacks on the back are probably for an amplifier output and you probably have had the speaker wire stripped too long possibly shorting out the amplifier as this is a common problem, if not stripped too long it may have just failed, also you need to check by unplugging from back of computer and hook up to a walk man or something with a headphone jack, see if still dead, might also be the cable from the computer to the speakers. Good luck. :-)

Speaker Hook Up - Non-Technical (single) Female

bought the same amp second hand and had same problem as there are two seperate amp chips inside one for front speakers and one for the centre and rears it could be the actual amp chip that drives the front speakers has died as there is no built in speaker protection so over driving these speakers will result in the amp chip blowing . it may be something simple but it was not on mine had to buy new amp chip and solder in that sorted the problem for me !
