where did u find the batteries?

  • Anonymous Dec 26, 2007

Found it after a long search of EBay. I guess dell offloaded the spare parts for the DJ after they stopped supporting it.

P.S. Thanks Chuck111, that worked. You can also find the battery at the ipods99.com site advertised on this page.

I have the opposite problem. I have opened my Dell DJ 30 and removed the battery. Where did you buy the battery?

To get access to the battery, you need to use a sharp knife (construction type). Cut the interface between the plastic bottom at the outside casing interface and remove the plastic in one piece. It is sort of glued to the bottom, but it comes off easy once the perimeter is free. Under the plastic cover, there are 4 philips head screws to remove a small metal covering plate. Once the plate is removed, you can see the connector for the battery. Remove the connector and then gently pull the battery out. There is nothing holding it in place except the friction of the other components inside. Mine came out easily. Now I need to buy a replacement battery.

It's too late to post this now, since mp3 players are getting cheaper and smaller, but I took one of these DJ's apart and extracted the battery and hard drive.

Both ends of the DJ have a thick black plastic cover each glued to a metal plate which is held down by 4 tiny screws. The glue is sticky so it'll take some patience to remove the plastic ends with a lot of prying. Removing all screws alows the panels to be removed to expose the internals of the DJ.

If you want to replace only the battery, you only need to remove the panel at the bottom where the DJ mates with the base unit. The battery is a very thin plate that takes up the bottom face. You'll see a pair of wires, a black and a red, that terminate to a tiny connector. Disconnect it and then gently pull on the wires to pull the battery out.

If you want to replace the hard drive, you''ll need to remove both end panels and pry out the roller assembly. That entire ***** pops out with a lot of coaxing. Pry it from the groove around its base, not from the black roller. Once this assembly is out, push the circuit board up from the base end. The hard drive is the metal assembly on the back, opposite side from the display. It's metal frame is held down by 4 screws, one of which is under the display. Release the 4 tabs holding the display in place and flip it up and out of the way to access the last screw holding the hard drive holder down.

I can't help you past this point because I'm not replacing the drive. This unit wasn't worth fixing so I'm throwing it all away. I just wanted to tell you all how to disassemble this thing up to this point. Doing this voids your warranty so don't blame me for that.

I have a Dell 30GB Juke Box work's great in base unit.

What you have is a bad battery. Your base unit is powering it while its mounted there, but as soon as you remove it, it dies.
There are some battery places that sell them for $30-$40 plus shipping, I found them on Ebay for $14.99 and free shipping. They come from Hong Kong so expect it to take about 3-4 weeks to arrive.
Try this link:

Note: I have no interest in or affiliation with the seller of the batteries. Just trying to help.

30GB Zune Froze

A co-worker of mine may have found a solution. But it is risky, since you have to open your Zune. Since his Zune has already no warranty, he carefully opened it, unplugged the battery cable and waited a few seconds, plugged it again and restarted.

The device is now working! we're listening to it right now and the computer recognized it. It seems like a solution to me! (If you have no problems opening your Zune). there is this video and some others on youtube that can instruct you on opening your Zune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBL0lPBpC3I

I'm about to do it now. Good luck!
