Can't format sdhc card in my camera.

I have a SVP CDC - 8610 digital camera, and I just bought a SanDisk Ultra II sdhc 8 GB memory card for the camera. The camera can't format it and I can't do anything, take pictures, access setup options or anything. First it says format: ok, I press ok, then I get just a beep and it says card error! on the screen. If you can help I Thank You very much, if you can't help, thank you for your time.

Your camera will accept a maximum SD card capacity of 1GB. It simply isn't capable of handling anything of a larger capacity and in particular is incompatible with the more technically advanced SDHC cards.

Your fix is to either replace your camera with a later model or to stick to using SD cards with a maximum 1GB capacity.

The C743 works with MMC and SD cards, not with SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible. You need to go with cards 2GB and smaller.

New sandisk 8 gb sd card reports memory error when inserted in camera. other cards work in camera. card is recognized by laptop. tried reformatting by Vista

There are no 8GB SD cards. Cards this size are SDHC (High Capacity). SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

SanDisk ULTRA II 8GB won't read when installed in a laptop. Works fine in the Digital camcorder. Trying to import the footage on to a Fujitsu tablet laptop (12 months old). Reads the standard 2Gb memory...

No, it's a hardware issue. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card (the HC stands for High Capacity), but the card reader in your machine is clearly only compatible with the older type SD cards. SDHC devices will accept SD cards, but devices designed solely for SD cards cannot read or format SDHC cards.

There is no firmware update for this, your only fix is to buy an external reader compatible with SDHC cards for connection via a USB socket. Most new readers are fully SDHC compliant, but check the specs for shelling out your hard-earned...

I have a Pentax Optio A20. I currently user an Sandisc Ultra II 1.0 GB card. I can't find those cards anymore. I'm not sure if the camera will support a SanDisk 4GB UltraII SDHC Card or a SanDisk 2GB...

It will take a 2 GB card, I am using one now.
I can't tell you about a 4GB card, but that's a LOT of storage, so you probably don't really need a 4GB card anyhow???

CoolPix 5000 "OUT OF MEMORY" message that we can't figure out

At 4GB size, your memory card is likely a SDHC card, and not a standard SD card. Although they look the same, there is a difference in formatting. Unfortunately your model camera was designed before the SDHC format came out, and it will not work with your camera. But fortunately standard SD cards are very inexpensive these days, and you should be able to purchase a good 2GB standard card for around $6 with shipping:
