Is it formatted as FAT32? If so, it doesn't support files larger than 4GB.

Backup the files you have on it, then reformat as NTFS.

Hi i was having a few problems with my maxtor 500gb external hard drive after using with my xbox, i soon came to see that it had been reformatted into FAT32 so it wasnt letting me move files that were over...

You could download and install Seatools, free, from the Seagate website (Seagate incorporates Maxtor). You can run a check and possibly repair the disc if it is damaged. Seatools and can also automatically report on the manufacturer's 5 year warranty, and provides a reference to have it repaired under any guarantee which may remain.

How do I backup files to my Freecom external hard drive XS 3.5 ?? Ive installed it but cannot workout how to use it !! there are no manuals !!

you can open Computer on your screen and then there is C: drive and Freecom labeled to it. Open first the C drive, click Ctrl + A to highlight everything. Then click Ctrl + C. Then go back to Computer and click Freecom. Then click Ctrl + V. All the files will be transferred to Freecom. Then you may proceed for your next step. That is how you back up files.

Freecom Classic 500GB External HDD Power Problemo

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

Grab the solder gun and get started. No problem at all. Just replace the power button and your hard drive is perfect again. Only do this if you can have soldered anything previously. Try a matching button so that it may fix in the proper position.

Dont hesitate to comment if you have any other question.
Kindly rate me if i was helpful.

Freecom 500gb external hard drive not working

Try another computer, likely if it was plugged in though and was not protected with a surge protector its gone. Their are expensive services that might be able to retrieve it though, but that could cost hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Without being physically at the pc it's still going to very hard to diagnose it, try to find a family friend or someone who is well versed with computers to have a look. Or you might try a local repair shop.

Freecom hard drive problem?

Unless you "GHOST" or "CLONE" the programsd over to the harddrive, instead of just copy and paste, they will not open. What you will have to do mo0re than likely is remove the installation files through control panel and reinstall the program onto the external harddrive.

Freecom Classic DVD problem

I had a similar problem with a Sony External DVD Writer. I updated the firmware and all was right again. If you can identify the model of your drive here ----> http://www.freecom.com/firmware.asp?form1=true&form2=true&serie=12600&Manufactures=12600 ----- Then you can download the firmware, update and you should be set. Hope that helps!
