Acer extensa 4630z I am trying to reboot Vista but I cannot get to the proper screen. I can get no further than Edit Windows boot options for: Microsoft Windows Vista

Try disabling the track pad and enabiling it. Hot key is normally FN + F3

Your boot sector or MBR is damaged. Put a bootable CD in the CD drive and see it the computer boots up.

Bring your Laptop to the nearest Computer Center or any Local Technician to see your laptop. Laptop like this are problem with short circuit or manage power voltage connection.
Also it's having some trouble with motherboard pizza's inside.

Yes it is nothing to do with hardware problem of yours, here is a tip to install your windows xp on your ACER Extensa, but before that I tell you that your hard drive inside is Sata so this is the solution, go to your BIOS Setup and change the setting of your hard disk from SATA mode to IDE Mode, find it their., and have your installation with your new windows xp, trust me, good luck!

If you want to go down the route of reinstalling windows, you will need the windows disk which came with the laptop.

Insert the Windows CD that came with your PC, and reboot your system. If you didn't receive a Windows disc with your machine, the files you need are sitting in a hidden partition on your hard drive. To access them, press the keys indicated on your screen when you reboot, but before Windows loads.

If it gives you the option to boot from the CD, make sure to do this.

Once you have got to this stage you follow the steps through. Delete all the partitions and the format the hard drive. You will then be able to do a clean install of windows.

The other way before Vista starts up is to tap ALT + F10 (at the same time repeatedly) when the computer is first switched on.. The window of opportunity is very small, so this may take a few attempts

Once you have tapped both the ALT and F10 repeatedly, you may see a screen showing:

“Edit Boot options for Microsoft Windows Vista”

If you see this, unfortunately, you have missed the window of opportunity, and you need to restart, and try again.

If you see this:
“Edit Boot options for Windows Setup” OR “Edit Boot options for Acer eRecovery”

Then it indicates that you have tapped the ALT + F10 correctly, and all you now need to do is press “Enter” and the Recovery program should load on your screen after a short pause..

In some cases, you may need to remove the battery (for notebooks only) and run the machine directly from the mains.

The Disk2Disk recovery feature allows you to recover the system without recovery CDs.
This will return your system to factory settings and will delete everything stored on the machine.
If possible we strongly advise backing up anything important on your machine before starting the recovery process.
