Frig not kicking on after the defrost mode. Replaced the defrost timer, I think it did help some. Now it works for maybe 1/2or3 days, then won't kick on again. When I open the freezer door & or tap the temperture control thermostat it starts right up. Again it may last 1/2/ or 3 days and then do the same thing. Wanted some confirmation (reasurance) that there is a good chance that the Temp Control Therm is what I need before spending another 60.00 bucks. Thank you for any help.

Sounds like a t-stat to me. Next time when it does it, turn t -stat off and back on. If it comes on, replace it .

SOURCE: Lights are on but nothing else

Checked the switch in the freezer and it was bad. Odd time for it to go out, but it was not working and it would work intermittently if you shook it.

SOURCE: Troubleshooting defrost system failure on Amana Fridge

YES YOU GOT IT,IT'S THE BOARD BECAUSE EVERYTHING ELSE CHECKED OUT GOOD,BOTH FANS,HEATING ELEMENT,DEFROST THERMOSTAT,THE ONLY OTHER THING I WOULD DO IS TURN THE THERMOSTAT OFF IN THE FRIG.TO SEE IF THE COMPRESSOR AND FANS TURN OFF,WAIT 3 MINUTES AND TURN IT BACK ON, IF THAT CHECKS OUT THEN IT HAS TO BE THE DEFROST TIMER,LET ME KNOW-MIKE

SOURCE: Frost free freezer icing up

It should still be covered under the warranty.

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

SOURCE: automatic defrost not working, but manual is?

Yes if the heater and defrost thermostat are good then the problem is the control board.

Freezer needs to be defrosted every 3 to 4 days

Let's Try turning the defrost timer clockwise slowly. 67001036 Defrost Timer The defrost timer is item location 12 in this photo HERE and there should be a hole with a plastic plug covering the hole that you place the screwdriver through. Turn timer with a flat head screwdriver slowly until the compressor and fans stop. With fans and compressor stopped for up to 30 minutes the defrost heater should come on. If doing this causes the defrost to take place simply replace the defrost timer. If not then please let me know and I will instruct you on how to change the=> 67001794 Defrost Heater Assembly and the 12001937 Defrost Thermostat Thanks Sea Breeze

Refrigerator and freezer not getting cold enough. here fans blow and compressor kick on,have tried to reset, still no change...

Hello, I am a fixya expert,

I have seen your ad of help for a couple days here. I have been pretty busy helping other customers, however, I thought I would throw my two cents in based on the fact after reading your description of problem. You say, compressor is kicking on, tried to reset unit, fans blowing and you have cleaned appropriate parts. It tells me only at this point there is only two things to look at, One is thermostat is not working properly or the good old needs charge of Freon, or have a vapor lock in line as Freon is not getting through. Worst case, compressor even though is coming on, is not operating proper.
mc1bean_37.jpgNow, this might not solve the problem of course, but its areas to think about.

Let me know if this helps you some. Thanks Mike, from fixya

ON A NEW FRIG, KITCHEN AID KSCS23FVMK, HOW DOES THE DEFROST CYCLE WORK? DOES IT ONLY COME ON WHEN IT NEEDS DEFROSTING OR DOES IT DEFROST EVERY 8 HOURS OR SO BY TIMER IF IT NEEDS IT OR NOT?

It's fully automatic -- it will very briefly kick on the defrost cycle once a day (variable by model) to prevent frost buildup, but not long enough to warm the food.

Frigidaire Model FRT18DRH i have replaced the defrost timer and jumped the temp control and compressor still won't come on,had the compressor checked out and there is no problem there....am i missing...

Did you have them to check the freon gas pressure. The defrost timer could be bad that you replaced. Try turning the knob on the timer to see if the frig will kick the compressor on.

Oklahoma Freezer cold fridge warm fan gets Ice build up !

You should not have to manually defrost. Your auto defrost system is not working. Check the timer usuall in the frig compartment near the thermostat ( a small hole, use a screwdrive flat tip 1/4" to rotate the timer till it clicks starting the defrost cycle) check freezer in 10-15 min should be defrosted if not you will need to check the heater and thermostat located behind the rear or bottom panel of the freezer.

The defrost timer could be under the box in the front behind kick panel or in the rear by the compressor.

check timer(timer can be anywhere, inside or out by compressor or behind toe kick it has 5-6 wires and a 1/4 inch hole with a flat screw head in it. use flat screw driver, turn it until it clicks...it will turn one way only...that should put in defrost and in 30 minutes or less the timer should turn compressor back on if not replace timer...when it is in defrost se if element works if not ...check element with meter...also termination switch...open above 32degreeFclose under 32 don't damage coils
