System worked perfectly. Took system to grandparents house and still working perfectly. Got it back home and the sound now doesn't work. Games play perfectly but no sound on any of them nor is there any sound when the system boots up.

Well the slot might be broken. I recommend if it still has a waranty bringing it back to where you purchased it then tell them the problem and they will give you a new one.

Further to my recent problem re cannot find card I set the settings to automatically go to card so that when it says touch screen to continue just ignore and wait a second or two for it to start on its own. I also found that opening the lid FULLY back before starting up has some effect.??? It works for me !!!! Good luck NWW

Do you know where the SD Card slot is? If not, it's at the front just below the disc drive. Open the SD card slot entrance on the front, and take the back off the wii-mote. Turn the wii on, and at the health warning, hold the sync button on the wii-mote, and the one near the SD slot for 5 secconds. That should do it.

Make sure all of your firmware is updated. There should be a 1.17 firmware for it. I heard from a bunch of my friends who had firmware 1.16 or lower that they all got the new one and they all work perfectly fine. Try it. Here it here.

SOURCE: wii makes a buzzing sound when discs are running
The noise is the wii working extra hard to read the disk the lens might be dirty. Your wii might also have a bomb in it.............Just kidding. I would try cleaning the inside and if all is bad send it in to get fixed
