Try pressing the clean cell now button & check pre filter button at the same time hold buttons down at the same time for about 5 seconds with the air cleaner turned of and blue screen lit
It sounds like the main board is not getting power. The power supplies have capacitors inside that do overheat and burn out. You can test power coming from power supply leading to main board with a voltmeter. You can try to unplug for 8 hours, in meantime while unplugged, press and hold power button for 5 seconds, then wait 1/2 hour and plug back in to see if unit has reset itself
I cleaned the filters as well earlier and the red filter light still blincked to clean the filters. Then I pushed the power button for about 10 seconds continously and then turned it on and the light turned off.
Unit likely had large partical like dog or cat hair cross over cell, Unlplug and remove pre-filter & cell.
The unit has a timer that knows when power has been removed & front grille has been taken off by 2 micro switches in back of front grille that is connected to the units control board.
While you are there remove pre-filter & Cell, if ok and no debris is found & theres no need to wash, wait 10 to 15 minutes replace all & plug back in.
You should see the LED display flashing Clean Cell & Cell button flashing, hold Cell button in at least 3 seconds this may take longer to reset. Unit should turn back on.
This condition has happened to my 2 units on occasion even though I had washed the cell only a week or two previously.
The unit will turn off if a cell overload is detected by way of large static discharge. If I know the cell is clean, I just unplug the unit & take the front grille off for 15 minutes then & replace it plug back in & reset & all goes back to normal operation.
I just bought the same model and also have the smell. My previous one did not so I returned the first unit and the second units smells the same. I called Sears Customer Support and they told me that it is probably due to the factory smoke test they do on each unit. He said let it run for a few days and it should dissapate. I went a step further and am trying a new filter and if this works he said call the store and they will get me a new filter.
