Kenmore AC2044-1 Air Purifier Questions & Answers
Kenmore AC2044-1 question ASAP!
If it says "Clean Cell Now" and it is a new machine, it is broken. I have six, yes six, of this model. They are all new and you shouldn't have to clean the filter/cells for a few months.
The way to clean is:
- Unplug
- remove the white cover
- remove the prefilter. Good time to clean the prefilter by removing the 2 retention clips and gently swing the prefilter outward. Clean or groom it with a vacuum. Use the upholstery brush. wash the prefilter in warm, soapy water. No Chlorine! Rinse clean with regular water. Wipe with a paper towel and let dry completely. It is okay to gently use a hair blower to speed up the drying process.
- Onto the Cell.
- The cell can be washed one of two ways. Either in a hot tub of water or in a dishwasher.
- Wear gloves to protect your hands. Never touch the fins or wires. It will ruin them and cut you up. Use the two handles.
- Use hot water and dish detergent.
- No chlorine and no abrasives.
- Soak for 10 minutes, then dip a couple of times to remove stuck dust/dirt/schmutz.
- Rinse with clean water.
- Allow to dry
- Allow to dry
- Allow to dry
- Okay to use a hair dryer to speed up process.
- Reinstall
- Power up
- Press and hold CHECK button for 3 secs to reset.
Thanks.
Press power, buttons light up and thats it

Take a flash light to the filters to see if there is any debris. This helped me because as I was examining the cell for debris I noticed markings for "Top" and "Bottom" inscribed on the four corners of the front of the cell that I had never noticed before. After cleaning I had installed the cell upside down. It would work for 20 minutes and then shut off. The rounded thingies on the bottom of the cell are contacts which should touch the little springies on the bottom of the housing.

Kenmore ac2044-1 shuts off
Take Cell out and examine closely with flashlight for debris and bent aluminum cell plates or ionizing wires.
Make sure all plates are more or less clear of one an other with fairly even spacing between them and no kinks on their edges.
If any are to close together it will cause a cell overload that will cause the Clean Cell to display and or completely turn unit off all together.

Time On
There should be a timer button that can be depressed to set the amount of run time desired up to 8 hours.
If you press the timer button 9 times it will return the unit to no timer control function and the display panel should show no time in it's window.

Unit likely had large partical like dog or cat hair cross over cell, Unlplug and remove pre-filter & cell.
The unit has a timer that knows when power has been removed & front grille has been taken off by 2 micro switches in back of front grille that is connected to the units control board.
While you are there remove pre-filter & Cell, if ok and no debris is found & theres no need to wash, wait 10 to 15 minutes replace all & plug back in.
You should see the LED display flashing Clean Cell & Cell button flashing, hold Cell button in at least 3 seconds this may take longer to reset. Unit should turn back on.
This condition has happened to my 2 units on occasion even though I had washed the cell only a week or two previously.
The unit will turn off if a cell overload is detected by way of large static discharge. If I know the cell is clean, I just unplug the unit & take the front grille off for 15 minutes then & replace it plug back in & reset & all goes back to normal operation.
