If you subscribe to a caller ID service through your phone provider, you can block
specific fax numbers so the device does not print faxes received from those numbers.
When an incoming fax call is received, the device compares the number to the list of
junk fax numbers to determine if the call should be blocked. If the number matches a
number in the blocked fax numbers list, the fax is not printed.
Set the junk fax mode
By default, Block Junk Fax mode is turned On. If you do not subscribe to a caller ID
service through your phone provider, or do not want to use this feature, you can turn
off this setting.
To set the junk fax mode
▲ Some models have a Block Junk Fax button. Depending on the model you have,
do one of the following:
• Block Junk Fax button: Press the Junk Fax Blocker button, select the Block
Junk Fax option, and then select On or Off.
• Color display menu: Press Setup, select Basic Fax Menu, select Junk Fax
Blocker Setup, select Block Junk Fax, and then select On or Off.
Add numbers to the junk fax list
There are two ways to add a number to your junk list. You can select numbers from
your caller ID history, or you can enter new numbers. The numbers in your junk list are
blocked if Block Junk Fax mode is set to On.
To select a number from the caller ID list
1. Press Setup.
2. Press Basic Fax Setup, and then press Junk Fax Blocker Setup.
3. Press Add number to Junk List, and then press Select Number.
4. Press the right arrow button to scroll through the numbers from which you have
received faxes. When the number you want to block appears, press OK to select it.
5. When the Select Another? prompt appears, do one of the following:
• If you want to add another number to the list of junk fax numbers, press
Yes, and then repeat step 4 for each number you want to block.
• If you are done, press No.
HP Fax and All-in-One products are designed, according to international standards, to work with traditional, analog telephone services and might experience some difficulties when connected to phone lines with digital services. Make sure that the product is connected to an analog telephone service.
It has worked for last 2 years means that thephone company just changed from anlog to digital line, that is causing the problem.
since HP or any other all-in-one printer vendors have not catch up with the communication industrial. we are not going to see any digial fax machine any time soon.
The best bet is to call the phone company and have them install a POS (plan old telephone) line.
you welcome

Thank you frcs68 for trying! I checked my junk fax and I turned off the block junk fax option. Then I tried faxing again, and it did fax 2 pages, but then it failed again with the communications error.
I called HP support, and they claim it is because my fax phone line is through Cox Cable -- faxes require an analog line. They did have me turn off ECC and set the fax speed to slow, but that didn't help.
Cox says there should be no problems, because their phone lines are converted from digital to analog before it reaches the fax machine.
I don't understand. If it is indeed because of the phone line, then this should have been a problem from day one, and that was 2 years ago. I've had the same printer and the same phone service for the past two years with no problems.
If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd sure love to hear them.
Thank you.
Again thank you, frcs68!
Unfortunately, I am trapped in a 3 year contract -- one year left -- with Cox Cable. Anyway, I complained to Cox and they sent someone out and replaced my modem. So I was *finally* able to fax my document I've beent trying to fax for 2 days.
I think Cox got wind of the fact that I'm switching 2 of my phone lines to a real phone company, and they're messing with me. They said I could remove 2 of my 3 lines and still be in compliant with my contract. Unfortunately, I wasn't planning on switching my fax line . . . I had no idea the fax would start having problems with Cox.
Thanks again!
