My philips dvd recorder on start up says starting and then shuts down

When setting the record timer make sure that PDC / VPS is switched OFF.

PDC - Programme Delivery Control / VPS - Video Programming System is designed to allow for late starting or running programmes. Not all channels support PDC/VPS, so the recorder may be waiting for a PDC/VPS signal which isn't there.

Crack the top open and look inside for any foreign matter. Usually the cause is debris in the IR path that detects start and end of tape or the loading mechanisim is faulty.

I have researched that there has been numerous issues in this unit beyond warranty period just like this issue and the one I have with the DVD recorder. I am planning to write a letter to the company and need some supporters. I feel like we are being ripped by this company that sells products with defective and unreliable components.
