I recently migrated from XP to VISTA and now my L7580 has no SCANNER and no CARD READER slots available. Under XP (driver version 7) everything worked. With VISTA (driver version 8) I can only print. I configured the L7580 as a network printer. I installed the latest basic driver from the HP website.
If I try to scan from my computer no scanner shows up. When I select the SCAN button on the printer, I get the following messages:
Select Computer
No scan options.
What is wrong with the driver?
You may want to try the full install before spending more time troubleshooting. It's a 300mb download (!), but it might be worth a try.
You don't say what software you're trying to use to scan, either; you may wish to try another one. If you want to experiment, you can download a free photo editing package that won't take over all your preferences for files -- check out portableapps.com and look for GIMP.
I've got an older HP printer, a PSC 1610, and it took me something like *seven* times installing it on Vista before it worked right. It turns out there's the regular uninstall, and then there's a super uninstall, and then there's a super duper uninstall, etc -- something like seven different uninstallation procedures, which is just insane.
HP's drivers and cruddy software convinced me to never by another one. It's a shame -- the company made some laser printers 15 years ago that are still working perfectly.

Itried and it got worst. After I uninstalled the Basic driver, the new install of the FULL driver version got the msg NO NETWORK PRINTER FOUND. There was no wy to recognize the printer again. Even with L3 and L4 uninstall. So I had to RESTORE my OLD environment.
Maybe my Router is a problem with VISTA SP1. I have the WRT54AG. But internet works great.
I also have same problem with the latest HP driver version 8.3 (full version 3xxMB). the installation program just can't find my network printer (HP Officejet Pro L7580). The only way I can do is to go back to use the basic previous driver. I really really want someone can help me get out of this problem, thx!
