For Christmas I got an LG HD flatscreen for my living room so I exchanged my cable box with an HD cable box (PACE TDC 775D). Ever since then when I try watching tv, doesn't matter if it's an hd channel or a regular channel, the screen goes black after 15-20 seconds. No picture. No sound. If I change the channel or press a button on the remote, the picture and sound comes back on, but it will go back off again after 15-20 seconds. I went back to Optimum and got another cable box, thinking it was the cable box, and the same thing happens. Now occassionally, it will work fine without going out so it's hit-and-miss. Also, If I unplug the power and HDMI cable for five minutes and plug it back it, it works fine. I even hooked up my bedroom cable box, which is different because it's not HD, and it works fine. So that makes me think it's not the tv. And this is the second cable box that this keeps happening to so I'm not sure what this is.
It's not the TV from what I can tell. I would start complaining about it and say you want a brand new box. Not used. They tend to give out boxes from people who previously had them and either didn't pay their bill or moved and clean them up.
Yeah I don't think it's the tv either. My parents have a different kind of DVR HD box so I went back to Optimum today to see if I could get one of those. They didn't have one in stock but said they will give me a call when they do. I took another cable box and am trying that and hopefully I won't have the same problem. If I do, I'm going to get that other box when they call because this is ridiculous.

your setting for source of the audio is probably defaulted back to original setting in receiver. reassign audio input and problem may go away. it sounds like its not in the tv. i assume you have a receiver and are not trying to listen with speakers in tv. is this correct? if you are not using an amplifier, you may need to go to the tv menu to make sure the audio source is selected as the hdmi input. should take a bit to read thru the manual, but it ought to show you how to accomplish the correct settings.
let me know if it does not.
good luck

The problem your describing can be contributed to your cable box. Depending on your cable company there are times when the box has trouble translating the signal to the tv. You tv is operating normally. Suggest to the cable company to switch your box.

Is the HDMI port 2 work? Try to turn it off and turn it back on. If it is still not working then the HDMI ports have gone bad. You will need to replace the main board.

Most likelly it is your DVR that has a problem. Their are a lot of issues with those DVR's from the cable or satellite companies. I would recomend swapping it out.
