Likom 16" wide screen LCD monitor power is but screen is blackout

If it is running the whole width of the screen then the screen is faulty. If you have only just purchased it, get it repaired under warranty.

Maybe the "black screen of death" has finally caught up with your 6 to 8 year old lcd monitor. I would guess that the internal electronic ballast circuit (inverter) has failed and will not supply 500 to 1000 vac to light-up the cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" any more!!! Then you should watch some video clips at YOUTUBE of owners/ technicians disassembling and repairing typical CCFL back-lit lcd monitors.
My advice to you is: Get new higher resolution Wide Screen unit. Then and only then, attempt a refurb job on F50 to keep as a working antique spare monitor. 12fixlouie

It sounds very much like there is a problem with the LCD inverter. The inverter powers the backlight of the LCD panel making it light up so you can see it.

With the netbook being brand new i recommend that you take the netbook back to Best Buy and either have them replace the unit for a new one or have them arrange to send it back to Asus for repair.

The netbook should have come with at least 1 years manufacturers warranty so there should be no problem arranging for the webbook to go in.

I find it strange how a brand new netbook would fail in such a way so early in its life.

I believe the problem is in the same board that causing the strobing screen problem.
Cost is 150 to repair the problem board if it isfixable. No charge if not fixable.
You will have to pay round trip shipping for the monitor and power supply to Pennsylvania.

if you just bought it 2 weeks ago, i would return it. you can't repair that, you would need a manufactor repair.

Based on your description, it appears that the monitor is faulty. Since it is only a week old, you should have no problem exchanging it.

Try lowering your brightness setting below 55.Its hard to see at just the right angle.The monitor has a failsafe installed for over voltage use of the bulbs for the screen. The lights go out but your screen is still there.

To use the external vga connector of a laptop, you have to activate it. In many notebooks it is Funtion and F7 (Fn-F7). In your notebook it may be F5 or F6, look for a monitor sigh in the F keys. The activation may sometimes rotate in sequence , ie, External + LCD, LCD, External... and so on.

Just check that your monitor is not set to power down(Control Panel> Power Options) and check that the 'Turn Monitor Off' Power Scheme is set to never and turn off any screensaver to see if it still goes off.
