I have a Maytag refrigerator/top freezer model #MTB1954ARW . Suddenly the ice maker in the freezer does not work - the ice cube container simply fills with water that freezes. No cubes are dispensed. What should I do?

SOURCE: ice maker dispenses cruched ice in cube ice mode

You have a solenoid switch which switches the dispenser back and forth from crushed to cube. It could be stuck or not working or the parts connecting it could be disconnected or broken. You will have to observe to see if any parts are moving and if any noise is coming from the solenoid.
With your model number I can find a diagram which may help.

SOURCE: Ice Maker Freezing Up and Ice not dispensing

Check your ice cube tray to see if it is warped. Mine was. I took the tray off and dipped it into boiling water and remoulded it to the original shape and re-installed it. So far no problems. The tray gets warped because of the ice cube release mechanism. The tray is rotated around until it meets a block on one corner which creates the twisting motion we used to do on manual trays. Over time it tends to warp the tray. Good luck

I have a whirlpool 2 door top freezer standard refer. This unit makes a clicking/popping noise when the ice maker is in the process of making ice. Not sure which part of the process it is???

Most ice makers in domestic refrigerators make a noise when filling ice containers and when "dropping" ice cubes into ice container. If working OK then this is possibly the noise as described above.

Ice maker on whirlpool quit working .

If it's like my Samsung, there is a reset micro switch button in front of the box containing the ice cube tray. Press it and the machine resets, the ice cube tray rotates, dumping the cubes. It then rights itself and fills with water. Hope this helps.

Maytag MFI2568AES- ice maker making ice but cannot harvest

Sounds like the thermostat inside the ice maker that allows the heater to come on during harvest cycle is bad. You will need to replace the ice maker.

Ice maker is not working properly. I noticed that it dumped water into the ice catcher and fused all the ice cubes together. Now it fills but is not producing any ice. We have the freezer temperature...

Feel under Ice maker to see if it is warm. This is a heater that comes on to loosen the ice cubes just long enough to allow the cubes to slide out of their ice slots. The only remedy is to replace the Ice maker model=> D7824706Q Ice Maker Assembly
Please let me kow if this is helpful or if something different may be happing, Thanks, Sea Breeze

The Ice maker has stopped working.

There are usually 2 small solenoid valves that are used to control water. Both are generally installed at the rear close to the bottom of the fridge. One of the solenoids controls the water flow for drinks and the other is to control water flow to the ice maker. You can determine which is which by tracing the water supply tubes from the freezer compartment to the solenoid or by process of elimination. The latter method requires that you feel for movement (clicking) or heat on the water dispenser solenoid while someone starts to fill a glass with water from the fridge.

Before going any further, make sure that the ice cube detection arm in the freezer is not up. Gently push the arm down if it is. When ice cubes are ready, the ice maker turns on a small heater to break the bond of the ice cubes to the cube mold. The arm is lifted up and out of the way. Then the mechanical fingers wipe or push on the cubes to dislodge them from the ice cube mold and they fall into the container. The arm is then lowered again and rests on top of the ice collected in the container. The position of the arm when resting on the ice cubes determines whether or not any more ice cubes are made.

If the arm is hanging down, then ice cube production should be on. The problem may be either a faulty solenoid valve (mentioned above), switch in the ice maker assembly - the detection arm in particular or wiring between.

ICE MAKER NOT WORKING

Make sure their is no stray ice cubes jamming the ice maker. If they are then zap em with a hair dryer. Fill the ice maker with water and wait. if it kicks out a batch change the water valve. if it don't kick nine out change out the ice mold thermostat. None of this is very hard to fix. One other thing is if those condenser coils are clogged with lint then the ice maker won't get down to 25 f and the ice mold thermostat won't start the harvest.
