I have a punch p850.4 amp that goes into protect mode as soon as its powered up , have checked and double checked all connections to make sure its all hooked right . even downloaded the pdf for the amp .

I have exactly the same problem, try a different speaker wire from your sub terminal to your amp terminal, if no luck you may have a loose connection on the wires on your sub, due to vibrations etc they can sometimes come loose, but very rare. worth checking though. 1 loose connection can make the amp go into protection mode. If all of these are fine, start from the beginning, ( I have tried this and i think its my speaker wire shorted out) 1st dissconnect all wires from amp. Then connect ground first, then your live. then power up amp, it it works andd not in protect mode your earth and live are fine, then connect your remote, then test, then speaker wire , then test, that way you can rule out bad connections and find any fault.

As soon as I hook the amp up it goes into protection mode. But in about 10 seconds it flashes off protection mode but them goes right back into protection mode. And it keeps doing this as long as the amp...

If you disconnect your speakers and input and the problems remain it means you've blown your end-stage and the amp needs repair.

if the problem disappears when disconnecting the speakers you may want to check if the impedance of your speakers is within tolerance of the amp.

Not a problem just a question

  • 100 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms
  • 200 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms
  • 400 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms in bridged mode
  • stereo or bridged mono output
  • 4-ohm stable in bridged mode
  • Tri-Way capable
  • requires 8-gauge power and ground leads — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
  • 50-250 Hz high-pass/low-pass (12 dB/octave) crossovers
  • wired remote included for fingertip control of Punch Bass (0-18 dB boost at 45 Hz)
  • MOSFET power supply and output devices
  • MEHSA mounting technology increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET output devices to the heat sink, for higher power output, lower operating temperatures, and greater reliability
  • TOPAZ — noise-killing differential inputs that eliminate 80% of ground loop noise
  • Trans•ana circuitry keeps preamp voltages low and signal paths simple for outstanding audio quality
  • NOMAD — advanced protection circuitry for "intelligent" shutdown protection
  • speaker- and preamp-level inputs
  • 11-1/8"W x 2-3/8"H x 9-7/8"D

  • Wire your sub in bridged mode (4 ohm mono)
    + to + on amplifier
    - to - on amplifier
    (using bridging terminals)

    Protection light and nothing. ??

How about the speaker itself? This problem can be caused by a blown or defective speaker. If you disconnect the speaker wires from the amp, do you still get the protect light?
