Hub? Use a router. I have mine hooked up through a older D-link wifi-G router and it works fine. A router also works as a hardware firewall so no one can hack into your network. And they are cheap to pick up used! Don't forget to lock your wireless network on it or turn it off to keep it secure. Hope that helped.

I cannot connext my xbox360. internet light is not on on roiuter but i have an internet connection, how do i fix

The internet light indicates that a connection is made from the Internet port on the router to a device. This device should be a DSL modem or Cable modem.
The connections you plug the wires in a twisted pair Ethernet network into come in two flavors, DTE and DCE. There are 8 wires and two are used for transmission, two for reception with 4 unused.
The physical connections are the same on either end, so this is confusing. There are two types of cables, a "straight through cable" which can be used to connect DCE to DTE (a DTE is a computer or X-Box or something that is the end of the line, while a DCE is a Commuications device, like a hub. A modem or hub or cable adapter is a DCE. You plug your computer (DTE) into a modem (DCE) with a straight through cable. To plug a hub to a hub, you need either a crossover cable or a "X" port on the hub.
While many new devices are auto-sensing, the WGR614 is not, and they caution you that you may need a crossover cable, and to check the manual for the modem or cable device.
A manual for your router can be found at http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/wgr614v6_ref_man_20Apr05.pdf but I don't know what kind of DSL modem or cable adapter or whatever you have so I can't guess further. I found the explanation for "why is my internet light off" with the suggestion that you might be plugging DCE to DCE.
If you want to make your own crossover, it is not hard if you have the clamp for the RG-58 8 position connector.
Pins 1 and 2 are TD + and minus, and 3 and 6 are RD plus and minus. For a crossover cable, you need to swap 1 with 3 and 2 with 6. See http://www.kryslix.com/nsfaq/Q.4.html

How do you hook up a Dynex Ethernet Hub

If your hub has 4 or 5 connectors, connect one port to your router. This device will NOT work when connected to your cable modem, as the hub does not manage IP addresses like a router does. Hope this helps ... the remaining ports will feed internet, but not provide Internet addresses to a computer.

I have my internet through my cable company and i want two com hooked up but are not going to have them online at the same time so can i use the 10/100 5-port model#EZXs55w by using the line coming out of...

Hello Friend
You could definately use Network Switch-10/100 5-port model#EZXs55w to Connect to Network Router or Modem using Uplink Port at back Panel of 10/100 5-port model#EZXs55w Switch.
Simply Connect Modem cable to Uplink Port of Switch and connect computers to other 2 ports of switch. Allow computers to get Automatic ip addresses..if computers still not getting ip addresses auto--contact cable company and config your cable modem to use NAT or enable NAT--

Trying to hook up xbox360 to my internet to play online

if your using a modem its possible that it doesnt have a Ethernet port....Check the back of your modem and you should see a port that says ethernet near it. Plug your ethernet cable to the port in the back of the modem where it says ethernet. With the other end you plug it into the back of your Xbox 360 (its located in back to the far left....it looks like a phone line jack). You should then have xbox live

Cannot share my cable modem connection

You need to connect a router to the cable modem.  The router then gets an IP address from Comcast and provides a gateway between the computers connected to the router.
The modem expects to communicate with a single Ethernet device, and provides an IP address to the first device that provides a piece of data called a MAC address.  By placing a router in-between, the router gets the IP address that lets you communicate on the Internet.  It provides local IP addresses to the equipment connected to the local Ethernet and "routes" those to the Internet.  You can either hook your two devices into the router if it has enough ports, or hook you switch to the router and hook your PC and PS3 into the switch.

How to hook up the Ethernet 5port Workgroup Hub Model No. ew5HUB

To start with please make sure it says router on it as the title says "Networking Hub". These are two different devices. If not return the Hub and purchase a Linksys Router then follow instructions below.

Assuming you have a router:

Before you begin unplug the power from the Cable or DSL Modem before you start as they will have to be powered on in a particular order I will discuss later.

Your cable or DSL modem will have a cable coming out of it that looks similar to a phone line except a little larger. The cable will say CAT5 or CAT6 or Ethernet on it.

On your Linksys Router there will be a ports/jack that you can plug the Cable into from your Cable/DSL Modem. You want to look for one labled "WAN" or "Internet". Plug it in then plug in the power to your Cable or DSL Modem. When the "Ready" light is on the modem, plug in the power cable to your router.

The next step is hooking it up to your computer. There will be anywhere from 1 to 8 more ports available on your Router that is number 1,2,3,4, etc. Plug another Ethernet Cable into any one of those ports. With the other end plug it into your PC or Laptop, there is only one port/jack on your computer that this plug will fit in. Power up your PC and voila, you should be on the Internet.

Please let me know if this solves your problem.

Thanks,
Adam

I have a cable modem. from the cable modem I go to a 5 port hub

That is because most cabel internet providers only gives you one public IP. Please go to a Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, Walmart, or Targer, and ask for a LinkSys Router. The router will do NAT (Network Address Translation) that will allow more than one PC share the single public IP. This will solve your problem and will cost an estimated $30.00. The router is simple to hook up, just plug the cabel from your modem into the Internet/WAN port on the router. And the two computers into any of the other ports. Be sure to unplug both cable modem and router then plug up the cable modem first, once the ready light is on, plug up the router.

Wired Router problem

Are you working with a router or a hub...there's a big difference in how they work. The heading above your post says LinkSys NH1005 Networking hub, but your post refers to a Router.(?) Can you provide the exact brand and model number from the device?

A router can support several devices and allow them to share a single IP address on the Internet. Router setup is usually automatic, but there are several settings that can be adjusted manually if it doesn't work right. If this is a hub, the ability to assign addresses to more than one device at a time will have to be set up by your ISP on the cable modem.

Your description of the problem sounds like you may be working with a hub, and the cable modem isn't supporting connection of more than one device at a time to the Internet. If that is the case, you will need to contact your cable provider to see if they can support more than one network device using a hub. If not, you will need to upgrade to a router.
