Leave printer on, and unplug the power supply, then wait10 min. plug it back in, this should reset the printer, you might have to do this again and unplug any connections to your computer, wait and then plug in printer with power off and plug in connection to your computer, then turn on printer,, check your ink levels when you power up. if ink levels are low ,you could get this error. if this don;t work go to your printers website and check there solutions or you might have to call them.

HP LaserJetM551

Turn printer off and unplug any network or usb cables. Restart printer, if it comes to ready then you may only need to update the firmware on the printer to solve your problem. Go to HP.com and download the current firmware for the 551 and copy it to a USB stick. In the menus on the printer go to Printer maintenance>upgrade firmware and then insert the usb key into the usb slot on top of printer. Screen will show the file that is on the usb key, press ok and wait for process to finish.

  • I take it you are refilling the toner cartridge...
  • Switch the printer off.
  • Press and hold the green button on your printer and turn the printer on. You will see that the lights flash for a moment and then turn off. After a few seconds, the attention light will turn on followed by ready light and the green light. Keep pressing the green button. In a few seconds, the attention light and the ready light will turn off.
  • Push the toner rotate button while you continue pressing the green button. As you briefly push the toner button, you will see the light flashing. Release both the toner button and the green button.
  • Repeatedly push the red button (cancel button). Now all the working lights on the printer will turn off.
  • Open and close the lid of HP printer once. The light will start blinking.
  • Press the green button. Your HP toner cartridge chip will be reset.

The red triangle light with the "!" in it keeps flashing. I've just printed some things off but now it's not printing. Need it to print obviously..

ATTENTION light(triangle): Indicates that the print-cartridge door is open, print cartridge is missing, and other errors.

If ATTENTION and READY light is blinking:

    Printer initialization
    The printer is initializing.
    No action is necessary.

    Cleaning mode
    A cleaning page is printing.
Wait until the cleaning page has finished and the printer is in the Ready state.
This could take up to two minutes.

If ATTENTION and READY light is on:

    Fatal error
Turn off the printer, and then unplug the printer power cord for 30 minutes.
Plug the printer power cord into the power outlet, and then turn the printer on.
If the error persists, replace the printer.

If ATTENTION light is blinking and READY light is off:

    1. Attention: door open, no print cartridge, or media jam
The printer is in an error state that requires operator intervention.
    Check the following:
? The print cartridge door must be completely closed.
? The print cartridge is correctly installed.
? There is no media jam.

    2. Out of memoryThe printer is out of memory.
The page you are printing might be too complex for the printer's memory capacity.
    Try lowering the resolution.

Changed ink: on and all the lights Attention! box keep flashing

The manual for a related printer suggests that you have a printer failure issue. If the paper lights are off, then it is a scanner failure. If the paper lights are also blinking, then it's a fatal error. Turn off the printer, unplug the unit and then wait one minute. Plug it back in and turn it on, if the lights keep blinking then call HP support. (If it is under warranty, then it may be worth fixing.)

If I misunderstood your post and the power light is steady but the other lights are blinking, then you may have the cover incorrectly positioned or something blocking the ink carriage. Open it up and check for anything out of place.

    I hope this helps.

I have a HP LaserJet 1320n printer and it will not print. An orange light keeps flashing by the triangle with an exclamation point in it. I printed a test page and it was okay. It will not print...

    Possible Solution to your issue!

Blinking Attention Light HP LaserJet 1320 Series Printer - The printer displays an orange blinking attention light which will not clear. This usually indicates one of the following issues have occurred. Perform the following in the order provided to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
    1. Insufficient power. Disconnect the power cord from any surge protectors or power strips and plug the unit directly into an electrical wall outlet.
    2. There is a paper jam in the printer.
    3. The top cover is open. Open the top cover, reseat the print cartridge, and close the top cover, making certain it is shut properly.
    4. No paper was loaded in tray 2 or the tray was not loaded properly causing a mispick. Perform the following steps to load tray 2.
    A. Pull the tray out of the printer and remove any paper.
    B. Move the blue side width guide outward to match the paper size that is being loaded. Locate the blue guide pointer on the left side of the tray. If using a letter-size (8.5 by 11 inch) paper, match the guide point with the LTR/LGL engraving located on the bottom, left-side of the lift plate.
    C. Locate the blue tab on the rear paper-length guide. Locate the triangle-shaped pointer in the middle-right on the bottom of the tray. Press on the blue tab and adjust it so that the triangle-shaped pointer matches the paper size that is being loaded. If using letter-size (8.5 by 11 inch) paper, match the triangle-shaped pointer with the LTR engraving on the bottom of the tray.
    D. Place the paper in the tray and make sure that it is flat at all four corners. Keep the paper below the height down arrows on the paper-length guide in the rear of the tray.
    E. Slide the tray back in the printer.
    5. The tray 2 paper level indicator is stuck.
    6. If the printer comes back to a Ready state, print a Self-Test/Configuration page. If the printer is not in a Ready state, proceed to step 7.
    A. Verify the printer is in a Ready state. (The green LED next to the U-shaped icon is on steady and no other lights are on.)
    B. Press down on the green GO button until the orange Attention light comes on (approximately 5 seconds), and then immediately release the GO button. The green GO button will begin to blink and a Self-Test/Configuration page will print.
    7. If the attention light is still on, perform a cold reset. A cold reset, sets most, but not all, default variables stored in NVRAM back to the factory default values. It typically does not reset the page count, paper tray sizes, localization language, or formatter number. Complete the following to perform a cold reset.
    A. Turn the printer off.
    B. Press and hold down the green GO button.
    C. Turn the printer on and continue to hold the green GO button for at least 5 seconds, but not longer than 15 seconds. During the process, the Attention LED will turn on.
    D. Release the GO button.
NOTE: If both the Attention light and the Ready LEDs turn on before the GO button is released, the cold reset procedure must be started over at step 1.
    E. The printer LEDs begin cycling. The cold reset process runs until completion and the printer returns to the Ready state

    Attention Light Flashing

Unfortunately, HP didn't make this indicator very descriptive. Their product specification page for this printer states that the blinking Attention light, "indicates that the printer media input trays are empty, the print cartridge door is open, the print cartridge is missing, or other errors".

You've already changed the print cartridge and the light is still blinking, so you should take a look at the other conditions described such as an empty paper tray, open door, and so forth. You also will want to look for a paper jam or carriage jam. These are two very common errors that will result in a blinking Attention light.

HP.com does provide a web page that describes a specific problem associated with a blinking Attention light:

    Job Stuck in Queue

See if any of these suggestions work out for you. If not, post back your results along with anything else that you've learned about the problem. Good luck.
