Memorex MVD2050 problem with buttons on machine

The buttons on the player itself work erratically. Power off/on and disc tray open/close work only when there is no disc. Play does not work at all. Returned one player to RadioShack today, the replacement player has the same problem. Corresponding buttons on remote work fine.

    petraman7 is kinda right. The machine has an inherent problem. If you use the HDMI cable to connect it to, presumably any TV (the store tried several) this problem arises when the TV is turned on. Use the left-right-video cable and everything works fine. I'm very surprised I found no mention of this on any other forums! So, if you're really looking forward to the upconverting feature of this inexpensive machine, you've got a trade-off to consider. Use the remote for all the functions, including disc eject or turn off the TV to get the machine's buttons to work.

The default password is 1234.

Memorex MVD 2037 & Memorex MVD 2051

1. Turn on the Player.
2. Press the Open / Close button, (keep tray open)
3. Press the Clear button.
4. Press 1,3,6,9.
5. Press the Region you want, 0 for Region free.1 for Region 1 and so on
6. Turn your player off and then back on.

N.B if the hack does not work you may find you have to ommit step 3 and try again.so the hack will be

1.Turn on the Player
2.Press the Open / Close button , (keep tray open)
3.Press 1,3,6,9
4.Press the button for the Region you want, 0 for Region free, 1 for Region 1 and so on.
5.Turn your player off and then back on.

MVD2050 will not turn on. We have a DVD stuck in it. We turned the power off and back on after 60 minutes but nothing happens.
Hello K4, hi you can manually get the disk out, but you need to remove the cover. As for the power thing, you have a power supply problem, would you like to service it yourself or call a technician, If you will service it yourself, this are the things you should check:
  1. fuse
  2. open wirings
  3. shorted or over heating rectifier diodes and voltage regulator
  4. bulging filter capacitors
  5. Switching regulator IC, check for the output pulse using a scope.
  6. replace the bad parts, then test.

SCREEN IS STUCK ON HELLO AND WILL NOT OPEN
On my DVD player, the cover on the disk tray was setting too high. I removed the cover, cleaned the glue off and reset it. This time it was flush with the tray. It now opens and closes just fine.
Another possible solution is to unplug and replug-in player. You still may have to do this after using my first solution.
Note: My DVD player also starts showing "hello"

MVD2050 remote control
If you point the remote at a video camera and press any button on the remote while the camera is recording you should see the emitter flashing on playback. This will confirm that the remote has indeed failed or working. I did this and found the remote working... Now on to the player.

This is all I could find ..... Memorex DVD-2000 C/P / MVD-2020 / MVD-2022 / MVD-2027 / MVD-2027 A / MVD-2028 / MVD-2029 / MVD-2030 / MVD-2037 / MVD-2051
  1. Open the disc tray
  2. Press CLEAR
  3. Press 1, 3, 6, 9
  4. Enter region (0 = multi-region)
  5. Close the disc tray
  6. Turn the player off
Memorex MVD-2042
  1. Press OPEN/CLOSE
  2. Press 9, 7, 3, 5 (or 1, 3, 6, 9 for the "suffix B, C, D" model)
  3. The setup menu will appear
  4. Press RIGHT to move the cursor to highlight the regions
  5. Select region using UP/DOWN (0 = multi-region)
  6. Press ENTER
    (or try the instruction for MVD-2020 above)
