SOURCE: hi my lens is stuck

Lens needs to be removed, carefully stripped and re-assembled. If the three small plastic guide luggs on the inside slide ring are broken sell for spares. Very hard to repair.

SOURCE: Fuji FinePix F40fd-Zoom error

Unfortunately this is one of the hardest cameras I have come across to repair. The plastic guide lugs inside the lens which keep it stable are so small that once they get damaged they are virtually impossible to repair and only a replacement part seems to rectify the problem. Source a donor camera on ebay for a cheaper option than sending to fuji. F45fd and F47fd use the same lens so these are an option for a donor if F40fd is not available.

An update to the initial posting. As a warranty service provider, I can state that physical damage as a result of mis-use is NOT covered under warranty. Lens problems caused by dropping the camera are considered mis-use and are not covered. There is a good posibility that the lens assembly is just out of timing and can be rebuilt, but the cost to do this will not be paid by the manufacturer.

I don't want you to believe that this repair will be for free as it will not.

Regards,
Dan

The lens needs to be dismantled and reset.
If your camera is under warranty then fuji will replace for free. If not then it may cost around £90 to have the lens unit replaced.
Cost of repair will depend on where you take it to get it repaired and will undoubtedly be more than the cost of a new camera.
However.....
It can be repaired for as little as £30 if you look hard enough ;-)

Powers up,shows time/date not set but no buttons work.screen also dim.

2 possibilities that I can think of for your camera are;
1) The ribbons for your keypad and screen are slightly out of their sockets causing the problems and just need fitting back correctly.
2) The ribbons are damaged and will need to be replaced.

The buttons on the back are all run from the same membrane and connected to the main board. The on/off and picture/zoom functions run from a different ribbon.
If the screen is dim then the back light is either set too low or as I said ubove it is either damaged or not in it's socket correctly.

Only way to know for sure is to open it up and have a look.

Zoom error showing on display screen of my daughters fuji finepix f40fd digital camera. Unable to press button to take photos and when I try to turn camera off the zoom lens goes in and out twice before...

The lens Is trying to close properly but the focus mechanism has a problem, most likely jammed, so the lens cannot correctly close or work properly.
It will need to be opened up and reset.

Finepix F40fd: Need instructions for changing LCD screen

Remove the battery and leave the door open. The door operates a micro switch to shut power off to the camera.
Once you have a tri-wing screw driver start by removing the three tri-wing screws first. These should be located on the side where the hand strap is attached. Then you can undo the rest of the screws ( 5 on the bottom and 2 on the other side). Now pull the cowl away from the side of the camera with the hand strap. It should just unclip when you pull it. This should reveal the side of the two outer cases. The rear case is still attached on this side by a small screw and two more on the top by the zoom / picture button. Once these are removed lift the rear case up from the other end first so that you can release the ribbon for the keypad or just flip it over so that it lays flat next to the camera but still attached by the ribbon. the screen should now be visible but you may have to flip this over so that you can remove the bracket for the screen (the socket is visible underneath it and you can remove the screen with the bracket inplace but I find it easier to remove the bracket).
Be very careful when you lift the bracket clear as it is close to the flash and while the camera is off (and with the battery removed and the door open) the flash is still charged and can give quite a shock!
Now all you have to do is release the locking tab on the socket for the screen and remove the ribbon and then replace with the new one. Then reassmble the camera

When i take pictures, sometimes they come out with lines all over them.

shutter problem. put camera into full optical zoom, turn it to face you and angle it so that you can see into the lens without reflection. In full zoom the internal lens is right up to the outer lens so, even on a small lens such as this, when you press the picture button you should see the shutter close across fully. If it does not you will get either an over exposed or complete white out picture. Or lines across your pictures.
The shutter needs to be cleaned. There is grease in the camera for the moving parts and is probable that this is the cause for the error.
I have found this to be the case for fuji's E900, E550, F40fd, F470, F460, and a few samsung's as well.
