My player is about 8 years old. Its actually a DVM-1805. Within the first year or two, someone tried to turn the tray to load/unload disks with their hand, rather than using the buttons to advance the tray. Since then, the tray doesn't align properly when the carousel spins, and the player decides that there is no disk inside. I have brought it to a local repair place and they say "nothing wrong"..... Help!

I'm not sure if this will help, but when that happened to my CD player the solution was very simple. I removed the outter cover and took a Q-tip dampened with some alcohol and cleaned the little lens that reads the cd. It's a very common problem, and the fact that yours is 15 years old guarentees the lens is dirty. Some people trash their stero when It could've been good as new with just a Q-tip & little alcohol.
The Carousel 850 is 40-45 years old. The symptoms you describe indicate the timing is off. Timing is an "adjust & test"..... try a SMALL adjustment and then test it.... adjust again & test again. Repeat until you get smooth tray action. See the attached illustration:
Unplug the unit for a
minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.
If that doesn't work,
leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes. If it still doesn't work, it may need repair, which can be done for $39.95 in most cases.
don't forget that just turning down your fridge temp dose not mean your problem might be over yet. the freezer setting may also be too high & that will affect your fridge temp as well. i set both my control settings to around 50% of what is on the scale & that works perfect for my 7 yr old fridge. also, very important, is make sure the freezer portion is going through it's full defrost cycles, or it will freeze the upper portion inside the fridge. you should not have any frost build up in your fridge, nor should you have any in your freezer. that's why they call them FROST FREE. try the slow temp decrease over a period of a few days & hopefully that will work for you. good luck.
Hello There is a belt that drives the chager tray. It is engaged with its loading motor pully and gear set that drives the tray mechnism. To replace the belt, you have to disassemble the mechanism. Actually it is a skilled work, and without knowing its disassembly method, it is almost impossible to repalce the belt by yourself. I've the dissasambly and reassembly method, described wiht help of pictures and all other details. If you have an interest to get it, you have to buy one amoung my audio services, advertised in Fixya site. Unlike previous Fixya site, this new site is different. With old site, I've the facility to send you pictures and PDF files, but with the new, I can't send any of such documents to you. The document I've with me is an original published by Denon, Japan. If you want to do this work by yourself, and want to get this document, do the needy. OK.
I have the same exact problem with my Onkyo C-707CHX and I found a
solution that doesn't involve jamming any screws or other metal objects
into your cd tray (which could most likely just cause more damage).
This way seems a little safer: Power on your device and hit the open
button. As soon as you hit the open button quickly push slightly with
both hands on both sides of the cd tray that should be opening. You
should hear the trays moving around in there and then you have to try to
feel for a slight push from the tray. As soon as you feel that slight
push, take your hands off of the tray and let it come out. This has
been working for me for a while now (and hopefully will continue to work
until I take it to get fixed somewhere). The only issue I have run
into is that my "Disc 1" open button doesn't work with this method. So I
just use this method with disc 2 or 3 and then once it's open I can hit
the disc 1 button to get to that tray. So if it doesn't work with one
tray, try the other two as well. Hope this helps.
