You will need to send the unit in for repair. There is nothing you can do at home to repair this problem.

You have to download the recovery tool for your device and reformat it.

it needs to be done by being hooked up to the computer, but it's a pretty easy process. and free!

tho when i did it, it got stuck on a rebooting loop for forever, but i tried plugging it into smarteco and updating the map, which seems to have fixed the whole thing and it's working fine now.

SOURCE: Magellan Maestro 3250 wont power

Hi, as I have been in the situtaion with many electronic devices before I know how frustraing it can be when the car charger doesn't work any more. For every one out there reading this post if this happen to you again take the car charger portion that you put in the lighter for a charge, the part the goes in will unscrew, check the fuse. 99% of the time that fuse has blown and that is the cause of the unit not getting a charge, if replacing the fuse does not work the it is a bad unit and you will have to get another gps.

SOURCE: magellan roadmate sd card error

I had a similar error and I fixed it. That is, as far as I know...

Here's my theory: The SD card is acting like it has an error on it. This often happens when it is removed improperly.

HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT:

  1. Remove your SD card from your GPS
  2. Insert your SD card into an SD card reader or connect it to your PC
  3. Wait for windows to go through it's process of discovering your the "removable storage device" your just connected (see step 2)
  4. (This step may be different depending on what version of Windows you are using or depending on how you have your OS laid out). Look at the lower right hand corner of your desktop. There should me a small icon there with a green circle and a check mark. It looks like this...877f33f.jpg
  5. Click that with the right mouse button.
  6. It will say "Safely Remove Hardware" - Left click that message.
  7. A window will pop up allowing you to select your SD card and "Safely Remove" it (it will have a letter name like "drive F" for example).
  8. Wait for the windows to tell you it is ok to remove your hardware - then remove your SD card form the PC
  9. Make sure your GPS is turned off.
  10. Insert the SD card into your GPS.
  11. Turn on your GPS
  12. That's all! I hope I was able to help.
IF THIS HELPED, please leave a comment indicating that it did! If it did not help, please let me know that as well.

SOURCE: Can I charge my Magellan roadmate with USB cable

It depends on the Roadmate that you have. :
- If your Roadmate has a separate plug-in port for charging your unit IN ADDITION TO a USB port, then no, your Roadmate cannot be charged using your computer via the USB cable.
- If your Roadmate only has a USB port available for charging your unit, then yes, you can charge it via your computer via USB.
However, please note, according to Magellan, charging your unit using your PC via USB can take up to 12 hours to charge vs. 4-6 hours when using the vehicle power adapter.
FYI: This is mainly due to USB constraints on pretty much all electronic devices. USB cannot carry the same amount of power to a device. It uses what is commonly known as a 'trickle' charge to recharge a device. It carries much less current than a full-blown charger (like an AC power adapter).

My magellan Roadmate 5220-LM powers on but will not go past the first screen. I have tried to use the reset button but it still will not work

Hello Liz, You may have two problems. If your unit is several years old, the battery may need to be replaced. First charge the battery overnight. To get the screen unfrozen , you need to remove the screws on the back, open the case, and unplug the white battery connection . Reconnect the battery connection after a few seconds. If this works, it is usually a temporary fix . Either your battery does not hold a charge or your charger connection is poor at best and can not deliver a full charge to the battery. It could be both.
