PSP joystick messed up

Sometimes, while doing anything on my PSP, (games, internet, etc.) my joystick will randomly move down and to the right on its own. It doesn't do it constantly, just at random times, then it stops. I've tried buying a new joystick and replacing it, but it does it with the new one, and even with the joystick off. I'm guessing it's some kind of internal problem, but is there a way i can fix it?

Okay This has happen to me and what it is the joystick is off track. I'm not saying you guys are handling your psp roughly but it does happen. You can try to repair the joystick yourself.

But the best bet is to buy a new one. Doesn't cost much and it is not hard to do. I paid $3 for a replacement. Word of advice if you are buying a generic brand you may want to buy at least three of then just in case one or more of them are doa (dead on arrival) you never know. Will save to time in returning and waiting for a replacement.

If you want please ask and I will post a how to for repair of your OEM joystick. This doesn't always work but what the hell it's worth a shot.

EVERY GAME WE PUT IN THE PSP THE PLAYER MOVES DOWN WITHOUT US PUSHING ANY BUTTON I PUT THE GAME ON DEFAULT BUT THAT IS NOTHING FIXING THE GAME HOW CAN I FIX IT

The joystick has probably broken internally making the psp think that your pressing in the down direction. This will probably have to be replaced. The joystick can be purchased on ebay for under $5. If you don't feel comfortable opening the unit yourself, your local game store can probably replace it for you or tell you someone local that can. There are many videos on youtube that shows you how to replace the joystick.

Joystick registers false activity

This is a common issue with the PSPs --- the analog joystick assembly wears out and characters start moving by themselves. Replacing the part will fix the issue. The following website sells the part for $15 and installs it for $20 more:

Small Tidbit of info: The PSP 1st gen never came in Piano Black. Piano Black is a shiny glossy black color that started with the 2nd gen PSP. The 1st gen is more of a matte black color.

Sparatic joystick action for the psp

open psp, make sure analog stick is screwed tightly to the fron housing.. look on the lcs tray, right on the left hand side, there is a tiny transparent ruber, with 4 brass? contacts, make sure this is pushed in to the tray/board properly as this connects the analog to main board. alternatively purchase a new rubber bit from ebay, as sometime they go bad.
