Temperature in oven is way off

I've checked the temperature settings on our Frigidare self-cleaning oven and it is quite a bit off. At the 400 degree setting it is only about 310 degrees.

Is there any easy way to adjust this?

Many thanks.

I can't say enough praise for your help, Brian. It worked perfectly.

I did use one of those shelf dial type thermometers but only after a dual meat thermometer gave me the same low reading.

I checked both together on 350 degrees and they showed the same low results.

Moving the oven temp up 30 degrees after following your steps seems to have it very close now.

Thank you very much for your help!

    Jim

Jim,
A couple of questions... What makes you think the oven is off that far? If you have a set on the shelf dial type thermometer, throw it away. They are never accurate and generally read 50+ degree too low. I recommend the "biscuit test". Which is simply a cheap can of "hit on the edge of a counter top to open" biscuits and see how they bake with the instructions on the can. Make sure you allow the oven to preheat for 20-30 minutes (always but especially for this test).
To change the oven setting press BAKE, then run the temp up to 550 then immediately press and hold the bake pad for 10-20 seconds. The display should read 0 (zero) you can then use the up down arrow pads to adjust, hit bake pad again and then "clear" when done to lock it in but, you can only go up or down 35 degrees. If it is truly off by more than that you would need to change the main oven control board and oven sensor.

    Jim,
As Hannibal used to say on the A-Team... "I Love it when a plan comes together"! Glad it worked out for you. Happy baking, Brian

I have a Frigidaire oven that's does not heat up to high temp.

If your Frigidaire oven is not heating up to the high temperature, there could be a few possible causes:
  1. The thermostat may be malfunctioning: The thermostat controls the temperature of the oven and if it's not working correctly, it could prevent the oven from reaching the high temperature.
  2. The heating element may be malfunctioning: If the heating element is not working properly, the oven may not be able to reach the high temperature.
  3. The control board may be malfunctioning: If the control board is not functioning properly, it may not be sending the correct signals to the heating element or thermostat, preventing the oven from reaching the high temperature.
  4. The oven may be in a cleaning or self-cleaning cycle: when the oven is in a cleaning cycle, the temperature is raised to a high level to clean the interior of the oven.
  5. The oven may be in a energy saver mode: some ovens have a energy saver mode that decrease the temperature by a certain degree to save energy.

Self clean will not switch to oven temperature

About 6 times a week we see 'Self Clean' cycles that break ovens. Try removing the mains plug or turning off the breaker for an hour. If that doesn't fix it, you will need a service call on you mystery make appliance. It could be the thermostat burnt out or the control board frazzled.

Self Clean oven temperature is about 880 degrees Fahrenheit.
Self-Clean Ovens
The oven is cleaned by heat, at temperatures above normal cooking temperatures. During the cleaning cycle the oven is heated to about 880 degrees Fahrenheit (471° C.). At this temperature, food soils inside the oven decompose, leaving behind a small amount of ash.

Need manual for self cleaning, please?

Hello Mary;

You can get a user manual at the following website.

Locate your oven model number. It is located on a label either on the face of the oven when you open the door or on the side of the door. Put he model number into the website and you will get diagrams, component part numbers and manuals.

http://www.searspastsdirect.com/

I suspect the user manual is not going to help you. Tell me the model number and what is going on.

Manufacturers offer the self cleaning feature on ovens because customers like this feature and the ovens sell. Yet, the manufacturers engineers have not been able to provide a design that will protect all of the components from self cleaning temperature of 900-1,000 degree F.

When you go into the self cleaning model, the door will lock when you reach 500-550 Degree F. The oven temperature will raise to 900-1,000 degrees F. The oven door will not open until the oven temperature drops to 500 degree F after the self cleaning cycle is completed.

Now, You have a high temperature limit switch in your oven. If this switch fails, you will loose power to your control board and you will not be able to open the oven door.

If you have never used your self cleaning feature, the high temperature limit switch may have failed.

Do to the problems involved with the self cleaning feature, knocking out the control board from heat, additional heating element failure, and other components; It is in my professional recommendation as well as my fellow technicians not to use the self cleaning feature. If you do, do not run it for more than 1 hour instead for the manual 4 hours.

When we set the temperature on the oven, say 350, it will heatup over 400 - 450 degrees. Is there some way to regulate this problem?

Hi.

If the temperature runaways 50 or 100 degrees over the set temperature, then you probably have a defective temperature sensor. Replace the temperature probe located inside the oven cavity, that should fix the problem. If it does not, then the electronic control is defective, but that is not commonly causing this conditions.

My oven burns everything.

Use a 'oven thermometer' in the oven and determine the 'actual temperature' in the oven. Your knob setting is off (not calibrated) and the oven is hotter than the control knob setting.

Oven cooks at 400 plus degrees when set at 350 degrees

If your problem is temperature do this;
Press "options" Then press "6". Then press "3" to increase or "6" to decrease temp.
Then press "start" to end the calibration.

If you recently used self-cleaning you could have a thermal overload fuse problem.

How to use self cleaning oven

  • When using the self-cleaning feature on your oven, the temperature within the oven rises to an extremely high temperature, usually around1000 degrees. The oven will remain at this temperature for a set periodof time, often from 1 to 3 hours.

  • Self-cleaning ovens differ from traditional ovens in that they require a timer to control the amount oftime that the self-cleaning feature operates. They also require extrathermostatic controls to control the extremely high temperatures.

  • While the mechanisms inside aself-cleaning oven are quite complex, the concept behind aself-cleaning oven is fairly straight forward. The extremely hightemperatures incinerate dirt and debris from your oven, thus cleaningit for future use.

  • Safety is very important when using yourself-cleaning feature. You must ensure that the oven door is completelyclosed while the self-cleaning cycle is running. 1000 degreetemperatures are obviously extremely dangerous. Self-cleaning ovenswill come equipped with a secure oven door latch for this reason.

  • The crucial door locking system isinitially engaged to signal that you are ready to use the self-cleaningfeature. When the oven reaches a certain temperature, the door locksystem will ensure that the oven door cannot be opened until the cycleis complete and the temperature has returned to a manageable level. The result is a clean oven without the use of harsh oven cleaners orabrasives.
