Hi, I have a Zanussi WDJ1285 washer/drier. It is over 10 years old but until today functioning OK. The problem: having selected a program and closed the door, the machine normally takes approx 1-2 seconds before the 'door light' illuminates and the machine begins the program. Today it is taking approx 30 seconds before the door light comes on and the machine 'fires-up' so to speak. It completes the program perfectly, however should I wish to choose (say) a FAST SPIN following the wash program completion (and the machine has switched off in the normal way after the 2 minute 'safety period', it is then once more 'reluctant' to start the spin cycle until approx 30 seconds.... if at all ! This hesitancy is the same for any choice of program. I'm thinking it is therefore a section common in the electrics ... eg door switch or even an oxidized connection. Any ideas would be welcome. HI CAN YOU TELL ME HOW YOU SOLVED THIS PROBLEM
I have a FJ1053 with the same problem and found this quite helpful (thankyou!). I think the advice is probably the same for virtually any machine. However, I found that as the door boot is made of thick rubber it would not stay peeled back until I unseated the whole thing at the front and stuffed it all into the drum. Also, as I removed the two screws holding the interlock a little piece of plastic by the lock indicator light fell down to somewhere in the bottom of the machine - so be prepared for this!!
By the way, you don't need to pay £30-£40 for a new part - you can get the genuine thing for about £10 on ebay.
Problem is almost certainly the door interlock. to replace, remove the plastic clip holding the door boot onto the cabinet and peel it back adjacent to the door lock. the door lock is just held in by two screws accessible at the front of the cabinet. not an expensive part. easy job - takes about 10 min
the two screws hold the interlock but you must peel back the door boot close to the interlock - no problem in doing so or replacing. you do not have to remove the door boot completely just peel back from the cabinet. the door lock connections are plug and socket and there is also a small diameter hose connected to the door lock at the bottom which prevents you opening the door when machine is full of water. don't forget to replace it!!
called a door interlock. if i remember correctly, the part number is either 1240348209 if interlock is 4 wire or 1240348308 if interlock is 3 wire

Hi, Thanks for your expertise. I have taken a close-up photo of the door lock. Am I correct in thinking that by unscrewing the two 'philips' screws I should be able to extract / change the switch behind the plate without having to remove the boot seal ?

Hi, Thanks for the clarification. Can you advise on the actual NAME of the switch so I can look it up for purchasing a new one. I've had a quick look on the sites here but cannot be sure what I'm searching for.
