Actually, u need to have your machine search for the ssid of your router....a b g n protocols are of no consequence as they are range of speeds, your wireless must be turned on of course or you can;t ping your router...if I can be of further assistance maybe we can chat online? i hope this may help..
At home at least you need to be running at least WEP encryption. and encryption has a key associated with it. and guess what? in order for your wireless cards to see the router those keys need to match up. so sign in to your router to see what the key is and ascertain that a wireless cards on your network match up to it.
Is it the right card for your wireless? Because if You have A G router and are using a N adapter on your computer, they won't pick up

Remove Wireless Driver & Reinstall it again.Now manually configure the wireless .
