At home at least you need to be running at least WEP encryption. and encryption has a key associated with it. and guess what? in order for your wireless cards to see the router those keys need to match up. so sign in to your router to see what the key is and ascertain that a wireless cards on your network match up to it.

Acer AX1920-UR20P computer will not connect with Internet, I have tried wireless and ethernet connections.

is modem in bridge mode? sounds like you try wireless first. the router would then do the dhcp to get you on the net I would hook modem to router to tower. you may also want to power cycle them.

My Aspire Acer was working until last week (for 3 years) now it cant detect my wireless Sky Broadband router. I have no idea if the wireless functionality has been disabled - is there a different switch...

1.Try to reset your router ( a tiny hole reset button on the router, press and hold for couple a seconds untill the router led flashing all up ) Note : it will reset your router configurations, any saved setting, username, password router will be deleted, and back to factory default. so you better find its manual book.
2. also try to flush remembered ip and dns from your unit.( on command prompt type ipconfig/flushdns and hit enter

Cheers

Just came home with an acer laptop its asking for my passphrase or security key i don't have a clue what it is or where to find it got a dell xp home edition desktop

passphrase or security key deals with wireless internet if you are not using this then disable the wireless card this can be done Holding down FN on left side of keyboard and then Pressing the Function key at the top that relates to wireless it will have a little tower on it. only do this if you are not going to use wireless if you are going to use wireless you will need the passprase and security keys.

Acer wifi

Most Acers use an IPN2220 Wireless card. If yours does and your router is using WPA or WPA2 (TKIP or AES) security then you'll need to update the driver by searching for it manually using the Custom button (Hardware) in Windows update (instead of Express). This driver is not part of XP service pack 2 or 3. In my experience if you don't update to the newest common form of home wireless security (WPA2 AES) then the older formats seem to become unreliable in the way you describe

Your post is difficult to understand because of the lack of punctuations and capital letters.

Wireless connection

If this laptop has a wireless switch, make sure it's on.
Did you get the wireless hub?
Wireless is controlled by the wireless zero service, which should turn on automatically when your adapter is detected.
You can turn it on manually in Control Panel/Admin Tools/Services
