Samsung 216bw Stuck in standby mode

Recently came across this monitor and thought it looked to nice to throw away. When you plug it into the wall the blue led blinks. I checked the user manual and it said that this meant the monitor was in standby mode. The problem is no matter what button i push or what video source i plug into it wont come on. I have looke at caps and fuses and searched over both circuit boards and found nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

First of all it isnt a tv it is a computer monitor. Second theris no scart connector just a VGA and DVI. I think there is something wrong with the signal board. Possibly a shorted resistor or something.

Aready have tried all of that. Used 2 different computers. Tried different refresh rates. I checked samsung's faq and it said that the power supply is failing. I just need to know what component to check.

  • Anonymous Dec 14, 2008

Let me assure you that i have done everything properly. I have a degree in electronics. Yes is connected to and meant for 110 volts AC. The Power supply is internal. I used a meter to check the fuses. They are good. I checked the CCFL lights they are good as well. The way the indicator lights flash indicate that the "monitor" is in standby mode. Something has to be shorted to indicate that the monitor not wake up when connected to the computer.

No not that im aware of but it is possible that it could have been before I had it.

I have a SynMaster2053bw which is six months old with the same problem.

Contacted Samsung technical who immediately offered to replace it, so it must be a known problem. I managed to get mine working by connecting to a pc, boot and leave for a minimum of one hour, I then used the reset button to restart the pc several times. It should then start, but once working you cannot switch it off!!

1 turn on and keep your finger on the power button (tv and remote)
2 maksure there is an signal going into the tv via airel and scart
3 turn on via plug socket 3 -4 time on and off

    cheers hope this helps

Do you still have the problem and the monitor? Would you be willing to buy the parts from me for say $75? Or would you be willing to sell yours to me for the same price? I got one that someone dropped and the screen is bad. I either need a good screen and bezel or can part it out to you to fix yours. It will power up and work as long as I disconnect the broken backlight side, except the strip that was damaged that section won't work. The rest works fine. let me know. [email protected]

No power in my samsung 216bw monitor

Look for bad caps, it uses the same board as 223ww as shown in my albums.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Monitor stuck in standby..?

* Did the beeps go away when adding the new video card?

* Have you booted in "Safe Mode" (Press F8 before Windows starts).
In safe there are at least two options:

option - delete all the video adapter drivers then add the new one

option - change video adapter driver to Standard VGA

[If needed, write back for more instructions.]

* Also make & model of: computer (or motherboard) & monitor

My Samsung 216BW is dead I think?

It seems it is the power suply, because some componets inside make that noise that you said.
Or It may be the power cord so be sure the 120 volts are passing some time it can be break in the base rear the monitor.
The probelm is that I don't now where you can get the parts taht you need for your monitor.
I hope it helps you.

New Monitor Installation

Does your computer have more than one video adapter installed. If so, try plugging into the other one.
