I have a Westinghouse 77870 remote control with a light problem

I have a Westinghouse 77870 remote control on my living room fan and for no apparent reason the fan light will turn on. This can happen any time during the 24 hours of the day. It can happen twice in one day, then once in a day , then not again for a week or more. I tried changing the code switches to a different setting. But that only seemed to work for a few weeks. Any suggestions?

make sure that you have the power cord on the fan in the right position. Pull it once to see if that starts the motor. Then go back to your remote and try starting the fan from the remote.

My ceiling fan/light goes on when I am not in the room. The remote is on the bureau. I sometimes put the remote in another room but the fan/light still goes on. Model 327185-060

The simple solution is to turn the wall switch OFF when, the fan is not in use. I really don't think the remote alone is the culprit. Because, you say it happens even when it's in the bureau or in another room. Remote controls for ceiling fans have a very short range and are generally infrared remotes, rather than radio frequency remotes. So, if the infrared signal does not reach the receiver's sensor in the fan, it won't function. If it's a radio frequency remote control, do you have any other remote controlled fans in the house? If so, does the suspect fan seem to turn ON after you have activated the other fan? If that happens, it means both remote controls are on the same frequency. Changing the frequency of one, should solve the problem. See your Owner's Manual for directions on how to reprogram the frequency codes.

If none of the above solves the problem, maybe you should contact the "Ghost Hunters" TV show.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Track lighting remote control similar to that of ceiling fan?

Yes, but the remote operates on the switch that turns the lights on and off. Lutron has this kind of technology and it is really cool. I have it all over my house and I don't even have to go room by room turning lights off; I just push a button from my bedroom. Along with a single remote that can be used with each switch in your house, you can program a house remote that controls the lights and ambiance of every room.

The remote might have wrong orders. Get the battery out and insert it back and see if the problem solved.
Do you set the dip switchs correctly on the fan and on the remote? Numbers set must be matched. Otherwise, the fan won't work either.

Sounds like you could have a problem with the fan....but there is also an equaly good chance it's the wiring of the fan. Perhaps a loose connection. If you are not familiar with checking electrical connections, you probably need to call an electrician to check the wiring SOON, before there is a short. If all connections are good, then you will know it's the fan (or the remote receiver on the fan).
Hope this helps!

Two fans, remotes work with one, not the other

YOU MUST TRY CHANGEING THE CHANNEL ON THE REMOT AND TRY IT THEN IF IT DOES NOT WORK YOU MUST TAKE DOWN THE FAN AND CHECK WHAT CHANNEL THE RECIEVER HAS AND MATCH IT TO THE REMOTE.
