Question about GE 46GW947 46" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Dark picture I was wondering if a dark picture is caused by a weakening projection lamp. If so, is it possible to relamp the projector and if anyone has an idea of the cost.

It is possible but there are other possiblities as well. Replaced the picture tubes would cost in excess of $1000.

Dark pictures after a lamp change normally indicate that the lamp isn't aligned properly, or that it has been touched with bare fingers and caused a black mark, or it's an inferior (budget) lamp.

If not bright again and not a generic bulb-possible problem with the lamp ballast that powers the lamp.

it is possible but more likely the lamp===remove lamp and examine it.

The glass pillar in the middle may be bent or warped and if so replace lamp if you have not tried that.

Our projector (Panasonic PT AE900U) is still working but the picture seems very dark all of a sudden. we are wondering if this means we need to replace the bulb and if so, what do we replace it with.

You need a new lamp. Cost is around $350. The following site shows replacement:
