It is possible but there are other possiblities as well. Replaced the picture tubes would cost in excess of $1000.

yes I have a GE projection TV it's been great for the last 15 years. Lately the picture apears dark, like most the things that are shaded are BLACK. and anything that appears dark is black. If someone has brown hait, well their hair is black. I called a TV repair guy and buy the time he walks in to the house it's 100.00. Then he said it might just be an adjustment. I said screw that. So just for shits and giggles I took the top panel off in the back and saw the three projector lamps. Dirty......The lenses we just covered with dust. So I took the mirror out, four screws, and cleaned off the lamps and then the inside of the screen. All dust and cobwebs. Put everything back together, went around to the front and cleaned the outside of the screen. Wow ! What a beautiful picture . So clear. Beautiful ! Brand new looking ! I still have the dark image problem. [Does anyone know where the contrast adjustment is ?]
