Overheating I have a Toshiba M35X-S111 laptop. The fan goes on at the beginning of boot-up, but then shuts off... and doesn't go on again. Basically the computer ends up heating up. Is this a problem with the fan or is it something else? If so... what would it be? I'm guessing something else as the fan works at the beginning so something controlling it staying on might be bad?
I have a toshiba Satallite A105 laptop, it shuts down instantaneously without any warning or sign. I gave it to some repairshop thinking it would be the overheating problem, they said that they cleared up the dust and everything. Now the fan seems to run fine, I can hear it! but the problem came back after 4 days.. fan is still running fine! Don't know what is the problem now, sometimes it runs absolutely fine for 30-45 mins before shut down and sometimes it doesnt even boot properly and shuts down. Please suggest what could be the problem. Also, I thought may be it's my battery which is causing the problem cuz it;s worn out totally, so i tried running it by removing the battery and direct with the power source, but even that didnt help.. same issue!:(
Hi, thanks for the comment. But if the processor is bad, then why wud it run for 30-45 mins without any problem, why not just shut down at the time of booting? I am more inclined towards the power supply problem to the motherboard, may be when i move the laptop, it created a short circuit n cuts off the powersupply.. just a thought!:(

is the drive making any sounds, beeps, or sounds like clicking after revving up? Might need new hard drive, I had same laptop do the same thing, when it got to post, cursor of death= hard drive died. Also note that you need to replace it with a low GB drive, ATA or SATA not IDE. Try and get 80 - 120 gig if it does need replacing. For some reason I remember it wont run anything over 240G.
Good luck.
This is a Maxim 1987, or in some cases Maxim 1532ETL power driver chip issue. The only solution is to resolder the chip. It's a tiny chip, but very doable with a fine pin soldering iron. It takes about an hour to do the repair. The chip is next to the power plug so you will have to take the motherboard out completely to do the resolder the Maxim 1987 chip. Basically, the point is to do an actual resolder, not a reflow.

After solving the jack problem. when I click on the start button I hear the fan voise but there is nothing on the moniter and no sound. When I remove the connection between the start button and the mother board and put it again it works two times and then the problem started again. The computer may work random at sometimes.
Is the problem in the small board and the cable which between the start button and the mother board ? If yes how to purchase it
there was a massive recall on these laptops years ago entailing that the mother board be replaced. unfortunately that is gone and passed. this is a problem with every m35x and most honest repair facilities shy away from those repairs due to the likelihood of the machine failing again.
it's not necessary to have disc to reboot or shut down your PC.. This procedure is very simple to do. Rebooting PC is necessary when sometimes its notice have a hang-up or low running system or uninstall program. Good luck!
According to the description of the fault and the symptoms that your equipment presents, you must replace the FL inverter, that is the one that gives the turn on of the screen of your equipment, if your you replace this piece that one finds behind of the mask of the screen in the low part and that is similar to a pen I assure you that your equipment it was working in perfect conditions
yes. normaly fan switched on automaticaly when the microprocessor warm up. inyour case some time the sensing of microprocessor and fen contorler had the problem .however you open your laptop and trying blow up with the vacum cleaner to do clean dust deposited inside your laptop mostly it will help to slove your problem.
trying up to your satisfaction.
More than likely it is overheating you can buy a can of compressed air and blow it out if you dont have a compressor that should be done at least every 6 months
Check to see if your Display is bad or Video is bad..
To Do This....
Plug an External Monitor into the laptop serial port..Boot the laptop and use the function key plus F5 to boot to external screen... If you see your PC running on the external screen it is a Video card/chip problem.....
Do your lights run ..the Power Light/Battery light/ hard drive light??? Do you hear the hard drive spinning??
