Is the drive making any sounds, beeps, or sounds like clicking after revving up? Might need new hard drive, I had same laptop do the same thing, when it got to post, cursor of death= hard drive died. Also note that you need to replace it with a low GB drive, ATA or SATA not IDE. Try and get 80 - 120 gig if it does need replacing. For some reason I remember it wont run anything over 240G.
Good luck.

tried this and it worked on my Toshiba m35x-s111:

    Ready?

    1. Remove all connections to the laptop. (USB, power, etc.)

    2. Remove the battery.

    3. Press and hold the power on button for 1 full minute.

-> Explainer. Yes, many machines only require 10 or 15 seconds but this reset instruction is generic and I've found people hold the button for 9 or 14 seconds so let's write the full minute.

    4. Let go of the power on button.

    5. Slip in the battery pack.

    6. Plug in the power to the laptop and to the wall.

    7. Do not plug in any other devices.

    Try the power on button!

To Do This....
Plug an External Monitor into the laptop serial port..Boot the laptop and use the function key plus F5 to boot to external screen... If you see your PC running on the external screen it is a Video card/chip problem.....

SOURCE: My M35X-S111 keeps shutting down

More than likely it is overheating you can buy a can of compressed air and blow it out if you dont have a compressor that should be done at least every 6 months

SOURCE: toshiba satellite m35x-s111 will not power up

there was a massive recall on these laptops years ago entailing that the mother board be replaced. unfortunately that is gone and passed. this is a problem with every m35x and most honest repair facilities shy away from those repairs due to the likelihood of the machine failing again.

You need to go into the BIOS (setup) and reset to factory defaults first. This should clear up the issue.

Hi, I have a toshiba m35x-s111, I was not using it for a few months because the monitor is damage. I tried starting it and now it comes on for a few seconds and then stop. Will not boot from recovery...

This is a Maxim 1987, or in some cases Maxim 1532ETL power driver chip issue. The only solution is to resolder the chip. It's a tiny chip, but very doable with a fine pin soldering iron. It takes about an hour to do the repair. The chip is next to the power plug so you will have to take the motherboard out completely to do the resolder the Maxim 1987 chip. Basically, the point is to do an actual resolder, not a reflow.
