Hi there,
my Big Disk Icon disappeared completely.. and the computer does not recognise the LaCie when I switch everything off, de-connect and reconnect everything again... what happened and what can
I have been having the same issue, and after reading Lacie's site, it appears that it may also be to do with my using a laptop now - their site says 'Note: Some laptop computers do not supply enough power on the USB bus to power the drive. If it works on a desktop computer but not on the laptop, this is the issue. Try the USB Power Cable or the AC Power Adapter.' I got the drive tested on a desktop and it works fine, but I still have to buy a new power supply for it!

Same problem here. I have a LaCie Big disk extrem 1trb that worked just fine on my Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.6. Then after I had transfered some video content suddenly the icon disappeared from the desktop. Utility tool does not see it. LaCies own update program finds the disk but updating firmware didn't help me. The disk sound just fine and the led is flashing when Im unplugging the firewire cable. But it is as if my Mac doesn't find it. I have tryed restarting computer with Control+Option+R+P.And unplugging everything + restart. No change. Help somebody please!Same problem here. Before anyone can help you with this they would need to know the operating system you using and possibly the hardware your using, and anything that may have changed, moving equipment changing anything power outages unplugging anything, anything that happened before the problem occured, also does the disk make any new noises or is it not spinning, put your hand on the case while its off and turn it on you should notice a slight vibration start this means its at least spinning, also are the led's(lights) illuminating as they did before or are they flashing or an odd color, also how are you trying to access the drive, from a file manager(finder/explorer/etc.) or an application(imovie/windows movie maker/etc.) and where was the icon normally, if using a mac it should normally mount directly to the desktop by itself, in windows it will appear in my computer after it has mounted, open the device manager and check to see if windows can see it at all....right click on [my computer] and select [properties] then click on the [hardware] tab then click the [device manager] button, expand the usb list or whatever type of connection is used for the disk, and see if it shows up also check in the removable storage areas and the hard drive list.
Posted Oct 13, 2006 - It's
not the drives that fail, it's the power supplies...
They fry after about 3 months-1.5 years. LaCie sells replacements for
about $16-$20, depending on the model. We have over 20 of these drives,
and here's how you know: the drive spins up, then down - it tries to
mount, data transfer will freeze, etc. Just put another power supply on
it, and 9 times out of 10, it's fine. Of course, any drive can fry on
you, but these have proven to be extremely reliable under some of the
hardest use imaginable.

Hi, blinking light may indicate activity to or from hard disk and computer, maybe the disk partition was damaged or lost due to incorrect ejection or a virus, you could use a free partition recovery software to try to fix it, for example EaseUs.
Try changing the USB port to connect it. Also try substituting the cable used to connect the errant disk. It may be a cable issue or a USB port on your computer.
1. the usb connector in the PC may have a broken board contact needs soldering or replacement. 2. there may be a broken USB cord to the external usb drive 3. the electronic controller in the USB case may not be working. 4. A new case may be needed with a new controller.
not sure if it will help, but try setting upnp active in your windows services. seem to remembrr my network assistant not being able to see my lacie network drive due to this in the past
Connect the drive to another known working computer and see if files can be seen. If not, you might want to try out a file recovery program available for nada on web.
For anyone with a Big Disk drive that doesn't get recognised by Windows and gets a TUSB 6250 message in Device Manager, the cause is very likely to be the power supply. Although the drive will be powered up, it is not spinning at the correct speed. I tried all of LaCie's technical support suggestions, some of which are outlined above and none worked. They finally suggested getting a new power supply. This solved the problem (Wattac, £22). This problem has affected a lot of LaCie Big Disk owners...
