Ok, I went through this same problem.
The links don't seem to work so manually navigate the site like this:
1.) Go to LaCie home page: http://www.lacie.com
2.) Rollover the middle menu option: SUPPORT & DOWNLOADS and click DOWNLOADS
3.) You should see options for DOWNLOADS and DOCUMENTS, in the DOWNLOADS section click on Software
4.) Click on: LaCie Backup Assistant (PC, Mac) · January 27, 2009
Hope this helps

The LaCie hard drive should have come with a CD. If you pop that CD in, then their directions make more sense:
1: Put in the LaCie CD
2: Double-Click on "My Computer" to open windows explorer
3: right below the "Local Disk (C:)" you should have a LaCie icon for your CD-rom -- double-click this icon for their setup assistant.
If you don't have a CD-ROM, you can still use the drive but it's more involved.
1: right-click on "My Computer" and select the option "Manage"
2: On the left panel of Computer Management, you should have an option "Disk Management" under the heading "Storage" - click on Disk Management
note: The Disk Manager shows your current disks in the top right panel, and ALL disks in the bottom right panel. You might need to resize the window to see them all.
3: In the bottom right panel, find the grey-ed out box that corresponds to your new disk, and right-click on it. One of the options will be to format it.
4: After formatting, if it doesn't automatically come up with a drive letter, you can once again right-click on it in the bottom right panel of the Disk Manager and assign it a drive letter.
Once it has a drive letter, Windows should see the drive and you should be good to go!

I had the same today with this HD. I decided to format using the Disk Utility on my Mac and that worked fine. Erased and renamed the disk and it works.
