SOURCE: deference Lacie d2 Quadra1TB/Lacie big disk ?

It's all about the interfaces.
The Quadra has four interfaces: • eSATA • FW 400 • FW 800 • USB 2.0
The triple has all but the eSATA interface listed above.
For doing video work you want a big drive with a fast interface. If you have eSATA available then that's the fastest. If you don't then you're just as well off to go with the triple interface. The FW 800 would be the next fastest, then the USB 2.0, then the FW 400.
Because of the way that data is transferred I believe that when doing video work you would be best served by the FW 400 instead of the USB 2.0 even though the USB is faster I don't believe it is a full duplex communication so the FW 400 is actually better for video.

Hi , I suggest try testing single memory modules , one at a time to isolate a faulty module if that is the issue
Another idea is running a Linux live distro os like Ubuntu from bootable disk or flash drive in live/try mode which run from a virtual partition on the ram memory
If Linux runs ok - then likely a Windows related driver / software issue but if same crash issues are observed then most likely a hardware device issue ie faulty memory module , but as varies when crashes i am thinking more the psu - high boot current load demands due to twin SCSI drives , video card etc - old psu - after a few years the power current rating reduces I recall -25% typical , discrete components not so resistant to heat - try to test with a known good high performance psu or just replace , at release date 2002 definitely due for a replacement new psu

LOL... If you haven't already fried your motherboard by using your modified PSU (And that's a big IF), then you need to buy a new PSU with similar specs and connection plugs (ie. a 24pin main) as the original PSU that came with the PC.

The power-supply seems OK, since you can hear it spinning, and the lamps are lit.

So, either the USB-to-disk-drive interface has failed, or the disk-drive itself has failed.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in some desktop computer, to see if it works, when you bypass that 'USB' interface.

I have an Abit IC7-G motherboard. Machine has died with no reaction from pressing power on and reset buttons. Power cable in is OK and when connected, green light behind IDE1 socket lights up (which says...

Most obvious problem would be the power supply. The green LED only indicates that the 5V rails os working enough to power the on/off circuit on the motherboard. First disconnect everything except the mother board from power supply. Then try switching on again. If this does not work, then disconnect the power connectors from the motherboard. ON the big power connector (P1) there should be a green wire with two black wires either side. This is the power on sensor wire. Use a paper clip or similar bit if wire to short out the green wire with one of the black wires. This should start the power supply and the fan in the PSU should spin. If this does not work then the PSU is definately faulty. If it switches on when there is no load connected then it is probably only slightly faulty (not able to provide sufficient current). Since the green LED is coming on, my guess is that you have bad capacitors in the PSU (they will probably have domed tops instead of flat). Try a power supply from another PC if possible.

Computer will not start. No fans, hard drive or monitor motion at all. But, a green light on my motherboard blinks.

Out university has hhad a failure rate on antec 450w psu of 40-50% over 4 years (total number of pc:s with this psu was approx. 300). Check your motherboard with a known-to-be-good power supply.

Hard drive won't turn on

You could remove the drive if you can get the enclosure open and either install it in a new enclosure or as an additional HD inside your Pc. Good Luck.
