Check a/v cables to make sure they are plugged in properly. Also check them for damage. make sure the tv is on the correct channel. make sure the menu settings on the t.v. or any appliance you may be running it through( vcr, dvd, dvr, etc.) are correct and that they are powered on.

Tv volume too low

Sometimes there is a volume on older cable boxes. Unfortuanately adjusting the volume can be a chore because most cable remotes are volume locked to the TV input. You can try and press the cable button on your cable box remote and see if the volume will adjust, if not I would call your cable company and see if they can help, and possibly replace the box. Usually you can take the box to a store for your provider in the area and they can swap it out.

A brand and model number would aid me in trying to help you with your problem--neither is indicated here.

My volume works for the DVD but not the TV. check cables, reset cable box and TV, and checked mute.

The volume control on the cable box would be defective whlist calling your cable company will help specially if its comcast. Try connecting the cable direct to the back of the tv bypassing the cable box. Update me with your findings.

My t.v. turns on for 20 seconds then it just cuts the picture off but i can still hear the sound

The way to test whether or not the television needs to be repaired is to do some things to it after it has cut off the picture. Making sure you can still hear the sound but no longer see the picture turn the volume up and down. If you can hear the volume increasing and decreasing, but you cannot see the volume indicator itself on the screen then you'll know that possibly the inverter(s) is/are loose or that the inverter board needs to be replaced. If you can see the volume indicator moving back and forth across your television screen then you might have a problem with your signal source i.e. your set top box (cable box/satellite tv box), your connecting cables or the connections themselves.

My TV lost image, but has sound. I`m out of warranty, what should I do? (PS: I`m a woman, so please explain it nice and slow :) )

Please read all before starting!
I'm a woman too. The first thing you have to do when your tv no longer has a picture is to determine whether or not the television needs to be repaired. The way to determine this is to perform some troubleshooting. The easiest thing to do is to turn the television on and turn the volume up and down on the television remote while looking at the screen. Do you see the volume bar going up and down as usual? Or is the volume of the tv set going up and down, and you can hear the volume increasing and decreasing but you cannot see any volume bar as usual? Also you can press the menu or display or info button (whichever of these your television remote has) and see if any writing whatsoever appears on the screen. I am asking you to use your television remote at this point, which is the one that came in the box with your television (not your converter box or cable box or satellite tv receiver or surround sound remote--I am speaking of your actual television remote).

I do understand that some people don't use their television remotes and disregard them putting them in a drawer or somewhere else and can't get to them. So if that's the case you can use the buttons on your television itself. There should be a volume up and a volume down button but DON'T push the channel buttons or the source/input button.

Ok if you see the volume bar going up and down or some menu or display information that is good. That means the television is ok (most likely). Then the problem would be with the stuff that you've got connected to your television or with the stuff you're connecting it with. Just try connecting something else to your television with the same cables, and then if there is no picture with new stuff connected try connecting the new stuff with a new cable. Remember that when you are connecting stuff to a television you have to select a corresponding input/source on the television in order to view it. The back of the television is labeled. If you plug something into video 2 or input 1 then you have to select that on your source/input button on your tv remote or tv panel.

If you isolate your problem to your cable box or satellite receiver or your cable service then you can contact the cable company or satellite company directly. Your box may need to be rebooted or replaced by them. It might also be a setting in the box. If you can do some of the troubleshooting and get back to me I can help you further when something has been ruled out or a problem has been isolated.

Hello,

Allow me to help you with your issue here.

Many cases like this there would be a "cable box" present if not consult your cable company as there could be a issue on the line.

If there is a set top box "cable box" make sure the volume is up on that as well or "if not" even mute. The fact that your DVD is working just fine tells me there is a issue with the cable line or cable box please check those and update us with the results.

Here is a run down on what to do, what to expect.

1. Contact the cable company
2. Ensure your cable box is turned up or not muted.
3. Have the cable company check the line.
4. If you have a VCR present make sure you press TV/VCR to get it out of the mode its in.

Please update us with further details as WE do not think its the TV at this time.

Thanks for choosing Fixya and Have a beautiful afternoon.

Suddenly my yamaha Rx-v2300 only works to provide sound at nearly full volume to get any sound at all. This then comes with a background buzz. This only occurs while getting cable TV signal, using other...

I'm assuming you have a cable converter box (set-top box) that you have hooked to your receiver. Check the box volume using the cable company's remote control. These boxes frequently have variable audio output, and if you turn the volume down on the box you'll have the symptom you're describing. When you press the volume up or down buttons on the remote, you'll usually see a volume bar on the TV screen. As you raise the volume, there may be a point marked by an arrow, which is where you should set the volume. On some boxes, when you get to a certain level the words "best stereo" appear, and that's where to set it. If your box doesn't have some indication like this just leave the volume set 3/4 or full up. Then the volume on the receiver should function properly with the cable TV input.
