Songy VX2100 I have a VX2100 Sony Handycam. When recording, I think the tape is dragging just a little. This causes distortion in the picture and sound when playing back. In the beginning this only happened at the end of a tape. Now it shows up at the beginning and the end. The middle of the tape does fine. We have been using Maxell DVM60SE Mini DV Cassette Tapes, but have tried a variety of tapes. The bad part is that there is no indication that this is happening while recording, only a nasty surprise later. I have had a hard time figuring out who to call or where to send it if repairs are needed.

Hello diddaddy, your Camcorder needs a professional assistance. In order to repair the Camcorder the following parts need a replacement: table assy, reel pn:x39484448 and plate assy,TG1 adjustment pn:X39484357. After replacing adjust the FWD position and the FWD back tension. Autorized Sony Service seems the best solution. If you need more info please advice.

I had the same problem when I reused tapes that I had recorded on before, but I don't have this problem when I use brand new tapes. I use Panasonic and Sony tapes and the odd JVC.

Clean the head

I have a DCR-100, which is basically the same camera, and had the same problem after I hadn't used it for about 5 years. After running a cleaning tape through it four times it became much clearer, but sometimes, reviewing my equally old tapes the pixellation/distortion reappeared spasmodically. I ran the tape at FF to the end, and then back again. Seemed to fix it. I think after a long period of disuse the recording heads oxidise and it takes quite a bit to clean them. As to why loosening up the tape works - no idea!

My sony dcr-vx2100 has a problem. while recording the camera will display cassette cleaning yellow icon. this messes up recording process. what should I do?

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. You can try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

A yellow symbol is flashing on screen, its a small box with what looks like a yellow rain drop inside if that makes any sense. I think this is affecting the timecode, the camera says it is recording then...

Recording onto a mini dv tape from Mac computer Via firewire

I have successfully recorded to a mini Dv tape from my computer however I connected my PC to the VX2100 using the RCA inputs. I have an adapter that I purchased from best buy that provides the RCA input/output. If your able to connect that make sure to...

1. Turn you VX2100 to Play/Edit mode (not camera mode)
2. Insure the program on your mac has an external output otherwise you won't be able to record.
3. See if your video editing software (if your using one) has an option for record to tape or to camera. I use Vegas Studio and it has an option for that.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!
