on some remotes there is a button to do this and can only be done using this button- if you have a sky box or other you can go into services/picture settings and change format here. if in dout R.T.F.M................lol
Most if not all DVD's are 16 by 9 even in 4.3 mode you are going to have those bars on this TV. Some television have a zoom feature to get rid of that but not this one.

take your set to a tech you are having problem in your vertical output circuit.leaky filter or coupling capacitor,or defective B+ regulator transistor or IC .buffer transistor or IC,or supply resistor, they need to be replace.good luck
