SOURCE: How do I get inside

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

I can help you in which-ever manner you decide.

1) I can send you the entire service manual via email...that will obviously require you to post an email address.

2) you can download the service manual from my windows live account at [email protected] however you'll need to confirm via emailing me there that you want to do it in that manner so I can allow you to

3) I can lay out the tear-down procedure on here to guide you through it...this being the most time consuming, but it's up to you.

Let me know if any of these options interest you and I'll help in whatever manner I can. I'll look forward to your reply.

Thank you for choosing FixYa today.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

GE XL44 Model JGBPOGEPGWH

I can't find the model number that you gave. I did find other GE XL44 ranges.

Near the gas regulator of the range, there should be a conversion kit. You'll need to pull the range away from the wall to find the kit. Turn the gas shut-off to stop the gas flow and unplug the range for safety. The conversion kit includes the instructions for doing NG -> LP and back. The pictures here, https://www.appliancepartspros.com/door-drawer-parts-for-ge-jgbs20bea1ad.html , may help you find the gas line parts.

There are a number of steps for the conversion. First, you need to flip a cap in the range's regulator. (When sold, the part is set for NG. You take it out and replace it after flipping it over (180) for LP.)

For the stove top, take off the burner grates and burners.
Next, you have to remove each burner orifice spuds (7 mm nut driver, IIRC) one at a time. Place the appropriate replacement orifice in that location. The orifice spuds are below the range surface so avoid dropping the parts. Each orifice spud has a letter with a different set of letters used for the NG and LP versions.

Inside the oven, you need to access the oven orifice spud. This requires taking off panels inside the oven. Replace the orifice spud, as with the surface burners. You'll also need to adjust the air flow for the oven.

Finally, turn the gas shut-off valve to on and plug in the power cord. Test the burners and adjust them following the directions in the instructions.

There is a blurb about finding the conversion kit and instructions on page 42 of the user's guide, available on the product page: https://www.geappliances.com/appliance/GE-30-Free-Standing-XL44-Standard-Clean-Gas-Range-JGBS20BEAAD . The current link to the manual is https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-85135.PDF .

I hope this helps.

(Since LP and NG pressures are very different, I hope your range was already converted to the LP regulator and orifice studs. Then all you just need to adjust the air/gas ratio to get a blue flame.)

Gas conversion lp kit 8927 has 2 pilot orifices...I only need 1, correct?

The smallest pilot orifice is used for LP. Make sure you read the instructions thoroughly. Usually the gas valve pressure regulator is disabled and the burner orifices are also changed. Good luck and hope this helps.

I just purchased a GE frontload W/D set from a local chain retailer who didnt offer installation on the gas dryer that required conversion

Hi,

Behind the knob on the control panel is a screw that needs to be removed to remove the control panel. Once removed, there is 4 screw around the door frame and two screw on the top of the front panel that needs to be removed to access the burner you seek. Converting to LP

Although this link if for a Whirlpool dryer, the burners and premise is the same. I hope this helps you, good luck.

What is the product # for the conversion kit from nat gas to lp? who carries this item? Does the conversion kit come with a regulator?

Some Thermador ranges are not field convertable from natural gas to LP. The PRG364EDG falls in this category. If you have one that is not convertiable; you will need a different range.

The PG364GEBS is not a listed unit at Thermador; I've found it for sale at AJ Madison. Since that vendor doesn't list the conversion kit (and they sell ones for other Thermador ranges), I do not believe this is a field convertible unit.

Thermador has manuals and installation guides for many of their appliances here: http://www.thermador.com/trade/specifications-guides . Most Thermador ranges come with the installation guide, as well as the owner's guide, if you still have your documentation. Otherwise, try the Thermador site for the documentation (check if the company uses a different part number internally). If the conversion kit is available, the part number will be provided in the section on the Gas Requirements and Hookup. If it isn't, the installation guide will clearly state that fact.

Other models are convertible. The PRD304GHU uses the conversion unit: PALPKITHC. You will need to confirm your model since the number of orifices will depend on the number of burners and the low simmer feature. (The PRD304GHU is also a 4 burner with 2 of them extra-low simmer burners model.)

For units that are convertible, you can usually order the part through the same stores that sell the appliance. Alternatively, have your gas service installer order the parts. The installation guide for the conversion kit will be included in the kit. For most ranges that are field convertable, the regulator converts from natural gas to LP by rotating a cap in the regulator by 180 degrees. (Take out the part, turn it over so that LP shows and reinstall.)

I hope this helps and I wiish that I had better news for you.

I got a GE gas range (model JGBS22) from a co-worker. She had converted it from gas to propane. I just had a plumber hook it up to natural gas but, even with the conversion manual, he couldn't change the...

There should be a set of orifices for each burner as well as the oven and broiler. When the unit was converted to propane, these orifices should have been replaced and the ones for gas put in with the conversion kit installation information. The kit should have been reattached near the pressure regulator.

If the kit was missing the orifices, then, yes, you are missing pieces. Check with your coworker if the conversion kit was missing. If you have the kit, it can be easily done by any appliance installer (or repair person) licensed for handling NG. (At least on our range, the conversion kit installation was straight forward. Every orifice was clearly labeled with the labels different for each burner and for the gas/LP kits (ABCD (NG) vs MNOP (LP)) .) The regulator is the only part that switched for LP or NG without the kit.

As I recall, the only tools we needed for the top burners were a small wrench (10 mm) and a small flat blade screwdriver. Remove one orifice and put in the appropriate replacement. Then adjust the burners so that they didn't blow out when the oven was opened or quickly turned from high to low (for the simmer burner). The oven and broiler took a bit longer. Several screws had to be removed to get at the orifices. Then the air flow had to be adjusted for the incoming gas.

I hope this helps.

GE stovetop with propane, too hot to simmer

I think you are right. Check for an optional valve for propane in your service manual or online on an appliance parts website. You can look up a schematic of all the basic parts.

Changing from natural gas to lp.

By getting a gas license! LOL

Remember to tip your waitress! I'll be here all week - Goodnight!

Alright...got it out of my system...here we go:

1. Find out if a conversion kit exists. Answer: Yes it does...in fact it came with it originally. If it had me doing the install, I would have taped the kit to the back of the range.
http://www.fixya.com/support/p106248-kitchenaid_kgsa906pss_gas_kitchen_range/manual-13680/page-7

....and I quote, "IMPORTANT: Your cooktop is factory-set for use with natural gas. If you wish to use L.P. Gas, an L.P. Gas Conversion Kit is included with your new range. Models with the TripleTier Flame Burner will include a TripleTier L.P. Gas Conversion Kit and a kit for standard ranges. See “Installation Instructions” for details on making this conversion.
2. Obtain the kit. This is more difficult than actually doing the conversion. Unless you have a dealer nearby, I'd simply call Kitchenaid directly: (1.800.461.5681) They will either send it to you directly (quite possibly for FREE) or point you in the right direction.
3. The kit will come with instructions, but briefly, here's what you're getting into: The kit will consist of 1-3 orifices. These will reduce the amount of flow going to the burner(s).
Why? Two reasons: a) Propane burns hotter and b) Propane moves quicker than N.G.
You might need: Allan Keys, Screwdrivers, Channel Locks, Adjustable Wrench.
You'll just disassemble the manifold, install the orifice(s), and GO!

Good Luck.

I cannot get a clean blue flame on any of my burners

You have to adjust the air flow to the burner. You are getting too much gas.
Verify the LP orifice changeout is correct.
