Which is hotter on my GE dryer, regular heat or medium heat, this is so confusing and I wish it just said hi/low lol

Regular heat is hotter and sould be a shorter run time.

    I've been doing it wrong for years. Got the dryer with the house and never really though about it until larger loads stated taking extra time

How do I turn the heat eating down?
Need a make / model of the dryer your asking about. There are far to many out on the market. They work differently. But usually the settings are Regular is high heat easy care is medium heat. And delicates is a low setting for heat.And fluff is No heat.

Dryer only heats on medium and high settings and the medium setting is very hot. Does not heat on low at all.
Sound to me like you need to check the vent for proper air flow. Make sure the pipe to the wall aint kinked. Take it apart and clean it up real good. My homemade crappy movie;

My mother-in-law is having a GE electric dryer
Hi, This has a 2 piece heating element. One possibility is the half for regular heat is broke and shorts out on the housing. This would cause the element portion that is shorting out to stay hot and not cycle with the thermostat. Does the dryer try and heat while the timer is off? Have her open the door with the dryer off and look through the back of the drum and see if there is any glow. Then set the timer without starting it and look inside to see if there is a glow. This happens at times when the element shorts out.
Without being there.. this is my theory. She might need a repairman because to get to the elements is a job.

We should address the heat problem first. If your dryer complaint is "heat seems low" or taking "too long to heat", this is commonly confused for other problems. When in fact, you may really have a "ventillation problem". Do you feel (with hand) alot of hot air pressure coming out the back of the dryer or house vent-line (for dryer)?

I would disconnect and clean the dryer exhaust vent/duct (at wall and machine). Then, while leaving the vent-line disconnected temporaily, test and run your dryer. You may see an signficant improvement.

Does it heat up better?
Do you feel alot of hot air and pressure coming out the back of the dryer?
When connected; do you feel alot of hot air pressure coming out of your house dryer vent?

I don't think it is the heating elements. You have checked out all the important stuff. Is there power coming from the controls on medium and low. It sounds like this is the problem.

the vavle in using high heat only comes in to play when you have a load of towels or some other heavy cotton,,thats what high heat is mainly for,,more moisture,,,on the norm medium with a regular load is the way ..now go to the dryer and look at the back vent where the heat comes out does it look like burnt and dark as if you burnt shirt and it stuck to the iron,,that comes from high heat scortching,,rubber in elastic in your sock and other clothing...onthejob slow low and steady
