In my case, since the brush wasn't turning, it wouldn't turn on. Cleaned the brush and it turned right back on.

Before replacing the motor, check the switch itself,, it could be bad or shorting ,, also,, if it seems intermittent it could simply be the motor brushes are worn, both of those are much cheaper than the motor, as with many fixes, sometimes its cheaper to replace the whole thing that repair it,, especially with vacuums

My rigid shop vac 4.0 has no suction

If the motor is turning on then the issue is one of three things blocked exhaust, blocked intake or the fan that moves the air is loose on the motor . The last doesn't happen as much but can. First thing is to make sure the safety ball hasn't become stuck in the intake line. ( this ball stops water from reaching the motor when using it in a wet environment.. If the machine was knocked over while running or was used to suck up water the ball may be stuck) to fix this , remove the wheels from the bottom of the canister , with the machine off raise it and bang it on the floor several times . If you hear a ball drop then that was your issue. If not Disconnect the hose and see if you have suction at the intake. If you do the problem is a blocked hose. Reverse the hose and try sucking the other direction. If the exhaust is blocked the Vac will come on but the machine will sound like it's under load. Try running it without the filters ( do not use in dirt until filter is cleaned and replaced.,). To check the suction fan requires unplugging the Vac from the wall and opening the motor shroud . Locate the fan , see if it is damaged or loose.

My vaccuum just shut off on me. Ive never had a problem til now. It made no weird noise or smell just stopped working. What can i do?

Sounds as if it needs the filters cleaning as they will clog up and in doing so cause the motor to reach its heat cut out safety sooner than usual.a sure way to know this is hpening is to let the vacuum cool down and you should find it switches back on.if so you need to find the filter cover near the motor unit as these can be removed washed and dried before replacing.this should stop the motor from overheating so quickly which in turn prevents the cutout kicking in.

Brushes in motor are arcing badly and motor only occasionally will start. How do i remove the motor brushes for replacement. (from the green plastic case)

This is kinda of tricky. need to know what kinda of vacuum it is first. However if you get it apart. To fix this problem the armeture brass needs to be cleaned & you should replace both carbon brushes. Should be cheap to fix if you are up to it. good luck save some $$$$...

Motor shaft wont turn on EL2050

Have you tried running the brush motor without a belt on it? Does it not spin without the belt? If so, you may have worn motor brushes (not too expensive parts, but make sure you order both brushes, or make sure they are sold as a set). If your motor is in good condition (you can check the brush motor by hooking it up to a momentary power source NEVER apply constant power to a motor that is not mounted to either the machine or something to keep it from running away) There is sometimes a switch down towards the brush head assembly that could be bad.

Temperature light keeps coming on

The whine tells you taht the bearings are bad. Now they may be putting a drag on the armature and causing it to shut down after getting hot. You will have to replace the motor.
