While charging on AC works absolutely fine. But while discharging i.e. Running on battery, shuts down unexpectedly. The same also happens when the the AC adaptor is plugged out at random. Lastly, the battery check confirms the battery to be 100% fine. Pls help... Thanks

Thanks once again Sir & Sorry for reverting late being out of town.
Yes,it shows 100% charge & it takes about 45m-1hr to get fully charged. Further, the question of running out of battery doesn't arise because it turns off abruptly especially when the ac adaptor is plugged out. thereafter even if the battery is above 90% charge, it doesn't start up. Moreover, power drain has already been tried for your reference.

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

    Thanks Sir,
But the battery is just 4 months old & none of the factors listed by yourself confirm to its behaviour. Moreover having already mentioned, the HP battery check tool confirms it to be perfectly ok.
Pls re-analayze the issue & oblige.

Does the battery show 100% charge and how long does it take to charge up from a near flat battery condition?
When you run the laptop from a fully charged battery how long before you run out of battery power?
If the time taken to charge and discharge the battery is short then the battery is probably faulty even though it is not old.

My acer 5920 wont charge or wont work on ac adaptor but the ac adaptor works fine on my friends laptop

Either the AC port on the back of your laptop has a lose connection - if operation without battery is an issue, or if battery charge only is issue - then battery may have to be reseated or it is at end of life. Test by removing battery and running AC alone. if connection port is bad, laptop will power off immediately/unexpectedly. Good luck! btw - batteries for this unit are around $40 on ebay

I try to turn on my laptop, and it won't turn on. When it originally happened I was on it, without the charger plugged in, online. It was working fine, and then all of a sudden it shut off, and will no...

Your battery is probably completely discharged. This can prevent the laptop from starting even WITH the power plugged in. You might try removing the battery, then plug in the AC power adapter. Push the power button and HOLD IT down for 30 seconds (your laptop may or may not start up. If it starts, then shut it down normally.)
Replace the battery. With the AC still plugged in, repeat the start proceedure above. Leave the laptop on until the battery is fully charged. If this doesn't work, then your battery may be bad (this can happen all at once) or worse, your charging system isn't working (less likely.) Your power adapter could also be bad - is the green light on when it's plugged in?

You may have to repeat the proceedure a few times before it works as the battery needs to show a little charge before it will start.

Once started, press F2 while on the dell logo to go to the setup screen. Select the power options. and you should see if the battery is detected. If battery is detected, it should say "charging".

If none of this works, call Dell technical support 800 822-8965 for further assistance

Lenovo y410 laptops turns off suddenlty while using it for long hours

hi

is the computer dissipating excessive heat from bottom ? is the heatsink fan working (is it blowing out air from fan on the side ? if not, then replace the heatsink fan. This shut down occurs to advise you that something is not working well , and to avoid damage to the CPU and/or mainboard, its letting you know that.

if the fan is working fine-- are you on the computer while the AC adapter is NOT plugged in ? Are you fully charging the battery before you use the notebook without the AC adapter ? If you are NOT using the AC adapter, running on battery life only, then do this : shut down the notebook, disconnect the power adapter, remove the battery back up from rear of notebook.
reconnect the AC adpater and start the computer -- perform normal function on the computer, run it and work with it for a few hours. if the same issue occurs, (unwanted shut down) , then perhaps the AC adapter is faulty, which is not charging the battery to full capacity.

let me know what happens-- i'd appreciate your feedback w/o receiving bad rating

Says plugged in not charging

Take out the battery and make sure you can turn on the laptop with just the AC Adaptor hooked up.

If you can then you know the AC Adaptor is good. Try another known good working battery in the laptop, if the battery charges then you know that the old battery is bad.

If the laptop doesn't charge with a know working battery or a new one then you know that the motherboard is bad.

HP 530 Notebook will shut off by its self and when you restart it and will show you that windows was not shut down properly. Could it need a new battery?

The problem lies with the power supply system either in the power adopter or inside the laptop. When AC power is plugged in, the system shows that the battery is being charged (Yellow Light Indicator switches ON) but practically niether the battery is usually being charged nor the computer is being run by the AC power. Its a little bit of energy left in the battery that keeps running you computer for some time and as soon as the battery is discharged the note book shuts down by itself.
However, the Taskbar battery indicator gives the correct picture of battery charge and the charging process. Better rely on that.
Its a hardware problem pertaining to power supply and charging system and doesn't have to do any thing with Mother board, RAM, Hard disks or other hardware installed in the PC.
Do tell the above details to a repair workshop man to rectify the problem.... Best of Luch

Toshiba satilite P100...wont turn of

Try these:

1. Can you plug something else besides your laptop into the outlet...verify you have power?

2. Is there a light on your AC adapter...when you plug it in?

3. Try removing your battery and plugging it in, and verify that your AC adapter is working (somehow, if it has no indicator light)

4. Then unplug it, put the battery back in and see if it will start.

Let us know what happens after you try these.
