I have locked my nuvi gps system and i can't unlock p,lease help!!!!1

If the maps are locked, it could be that the file may be corrupted.

Garmin cannot be unlocked unless you know the pink or the security location where the pin was initially set. If you don't know any of these two, your unit has to go to Garmin so they can remove it. There phone number is 1-800-800-1020. Garmin Lock is designed to prevent theft and it works really well. There are no cracks to by the system either. Sorry.

If your Nüvi keep displaying the maps are locked, you will need to erase a file from the units memory. Connect your GPS system to your computer; go to start then 'My Computer', and double click on your device file (mass storage system), there you will see a folder named 'Garmin'.

In this folder are several different files, look for file named gmapsupp.img. Right hand click on this file and delete as this file is causing the maps to lock.

Turn on your Nuvi 260W.

Enter the four-digit PIN you chose when you locked the device. If you have forgotten the PIN, proceed to Step 3.

Drive to your security location. When you reach your security location the Nuvi 260W will unlock automatically. If you forgot your security location or cannot drive there, proceed to Step 4.

Call Garmin to unlock your device. You need your receipt to complete the process. Call 1-800-800-1020 in the U.S., 1-866-429-9296 in Canada. See Resources for the Garmin support webpage.

Garmin lock is a theft-deterrent system that locks your Nuvi. each time you turn on the Nuvi, enter the pin or drive to the security location to unlock.

Touch tools>settings>security
touch the button below Garmin lock
Enter a 4 digit pin and drive to security location

Note if you forget your PIN and your security location, you must send your Nuvi to Garmin to unlock it. You must also send a valid product registration or proof of purchase.

this is the tips for you to unlock
follow this instruction:

Step 1 Lock the screen by touching the "Lock" button. To unlock the screen, press the "Power" button.

Step 2 Lock the device by pressing the wrench icon, then "System" and "Garmin Lock."

Step 3 Press "OK." Then enter a four-digit PIN when prompted. Select "OK."

Step 4 Drive to a security location then press the "Set" button. Now each time you turn on the Nuvi, it will ask for the PIN. Enter it when prompted or drive to your security location.

Step 5 Send the Nuvi to Garmin to get it unlocked if you forgot both the PIN and the security location.

Most likely the switch is bad. Do you feel it click when you put it back to the center position? Is it in the center position? How does the switch work when you use it to turn the unit on & off? That switch has (2) sections to it.... one for on/off and one for screen lock. It's possible 1/2 of the switch is bad. I've replaced them before.

on top of the device there is a lock slide switch, make sure its not on the lock symbol, other wise it will lock the screen touch feature.

There should be a small pinhole for a reset button. Press and hold this reset button for 60 seconds. Then turn the device back on.
