Our company has a Xerox
It could be a couple of things. Either the scanner or the laser. We can eliminate the scanner by you printing out a report. Either the meter read report or system data. If the reports print with out the white lines, you have eliminated the laser. If the lines are on the report, then the problem is in the laser.
Now, to clean both.
1. To remove and clean the laser, you first want to shut down and unplug the machine. On the left side, ( the side with the on off switch) you will see 2 screws in the cover. You want to remove those screws, pull the paper tray out slightly and then lift slightly up and pull on the cover, It has these tabs on it that make it tight to remove. But don't be afraid to pull, it will release and you may think you broke something, but you didint .... Now you look in about 10 inches you will see a black box with a some red wires running to it. That is the laser. You will need a stubby magnetic phillips screw driver to remove it. There are 3 screws holding it in place. On in back and two on the front sides. Remove those screws and then disconnect the 2 connectors to the laser and remove the unit. Then place it on a table, there are zero screws holding the laser cover on, Just about 5 or 6 tabs that you have to release with a screwdriver and the cover will pop off. Clean all the lenses and mirrors with a soft damp cloth, and be sure not to leave any dust on those mirrors or lenses. You will also see a silver 7 sides mirror array on a motor. Clean the front of those mirrors. They are the front curved surfaces on that rotating assembly. Clean them well. Then snap the cover back on and reinstall the laser. DO NOT remove any of the laser lenses or mirrors. Just be sure they are dust free.
Now, if you need to remocve and clean the scanner.
Open the door where you install the toner/drum. Above the cartridges you will see 2 phillips screws. You have to remove those. Then on the back of the machine, you need to remove the rear cover, ( 6 screws) then there are 3 screws under the lip of the scanner that have to be removed. ( Oh yea, I forgot, take the document feeder off first, unscrew the connector and lift the feeder off). Once you remove those screws. locate the processor board on the right side, on the top of that there is a plug with red wires from the scanner conected to the board, and then there is a white ribbon cable, remove it, and a green ground wire screwed to the metal bracket. Remove that also. Pull the scanner back and up to remove.
Once you have the scanner removed, flip it upside down. You will have to remove the 3 screws on the front bottom side and remove the consol, then unplug the consol and set asside.
Then there are 5 or 6 screws that hold the glass and bottom part of the scanner together. Remove those screws and flex the scanner cover out on the sides to release a couple of plastic tabs holding hte scanner together. Then clean the bottom of the glass. Set the bottom of the scanner upright and you will see the scanner head, the black box like item with the lamps. You have to very carefully release upper portion of the scan head with the lamps from the bottom portion to access the mirrors. Use a small screw driver to release the tabs. I caution you not to be forceful or you can slip the screwdriver to far in and brean a mirror. Once again clean ALL the mirrors and the small lens.leave no dust on the mirrors. Then carefully reassamble the scanner and machine.
Once you clean that you must then do a shading adjustment. ( Calabrating the scanner).
Once the machine returns to ready, press the keys in this order. Menu,#,1934. YOu should then see a " T " on the screen. You are in the tech mode. Press your machine status button, then scroll to maintenance, then scroll to adhust shading or just shading.
Place 5 pieces of white paper on the glass, press start, when it asks you if you want to adjust shading press start again. Then shut the machine off and back on.
Should fix it by cleaning the scanner or laser.
