Hi.
Your tv has " capacitor flu".

Apparently, the companies in China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Bali, and a few others, made a whole bunch of capacitors that, knowing that they were junk, got put into tv's and monitors anyways.

The capacitors are supposed to have a life expectancy of around 25-30 years, but the junk ones are only lasting around 18 months or so.
It isn't anything that you did to the tv, it was doomed from the start.

About the only thing you can really do, is take it toa service point.
I suggest Fry's, or BestBuy, as they are the most trained for the repairs.

Before you get it fixed though, get an estimate of the repair costs.

I say this because the repairs may be as expensive as the cost of a new tv.

What did the cause of the tv do?Tell me and discribe it might help u solved it or help buy and replaced some things to resolved it.

you have some bad caps in the mainboard very common on this model the can shaped devices will have a puffed up top i would suggest you have a tech reaplce them they are hard to get out due to the large ground plain on the board you need a good hot iron

The problem could be your antenna. Many people will buy small indoor tv antennas and wonder why they're not getting the signal that they want or the channels that they expect. Its not your fault. Digital signal is in two formats: UHF AND VHF. Some antennas only receive UHF. But many of the low band channels are VHF, so 1) you need an antenna that will receive those signals and 2) you need to know how and where to install that antenna and 3) you need to know if you need a signal amplifier depending on your coaxial cable length and number of connections. there are 2 stk392-120 chips mounted to a large heat sink. both are bad, also 6.8 ohm 1/4 watt resistors are bad . need ohm meter top check these.

To answer your question;
There is a common problem with your magnavox set(also known as philips).
There are a few capacitors that go bad in the power supply and need to be replaced.
If your up to it here is the part location numbers and values;
C2074 2200mfds/35volts
C2080-2082 1200mfds/50volts
And any other capacitors that may look swollen or rounded tops in that area.

Software won't work for this. Replace the SSB

Replace the inverter board. www.tvcircuitboards most likely has the inverter board or can get one for you if they dont have one already.

Check the internet connection. The television can't update if it can't see the internet. Resetting it breaks the previous settings. Just for fun, reboot the router as well and wait 15 minutes until all the lights come back on. Then reestablish the television connection to the router. That sounds like it has a backlight fault. A good TV engineer can possibly repair that for you.
