Overheeatiung bike is overheating. fluid level (coolant, oil) not the problem

not really a non running fan can cause overheating------ overheating problem --check fluid level--test coolant--check oil and coolant for mix problem ---water pump --etc

Make sure oil level and viscosity is proper, clean out the head fins so engine can breath, lose some weight,(your too heavy for the bike), if water cooled? check rad-cooling fluid?

if the coolant is in the oil then the intake gasket is leaking as long as there is no smoke from the tail pipe no power steering check the drive belt and fluid level

A fuel pump will not cause overheating, a defective engine thermostat will as well as a leaking heat gasket or low coolant level.

Check to see if your engine is leaking oil and/or coolant. This causes your engine to overheat and if it's not fixed, it can cause it to freeze up.

Check your oil and antifreeze for contamination. If your oil or antifreeze looks different in any way, have it tested by a lab to determine if contamination has occurred.

Check the level of fluid in your radiator. If your car suddenly loses a lot of coolant or the level is very low, this can indicate a cracked block.

Look for excessive smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.

Check the radiator's coolant mixture of antifreeze and water to determine if it has frozen.

Check to see if the engine has overheated severely. Overheating can be caused by another engine problem, but the effect of the overheating can be a cracked block.

wow we are going to need more info than that...
coolant level? oil level? trans fluid level?

Change and refill oil and change oil filter, refill coolant to it's level with proper mixture. Run bike on idle for 10-15 minutes, do a burst of revs and run constant rev at 5000 rpm for 20-30 secs, watch exhaust pipe smoke condition and if temperature gauge indicates overheating. Let bike cool off and check oil and coolant state. If you see milky oil, oily coolant and reservoir going empty, you may have a cracked cyl head walls. Happy hunting.

After letting a bike idle for 30 minutes it would make me suspect that the bike was overheating...its not good to let a bike idle that long.. this is one of the two reason that California lets bikers split lanes... one is motorcycles will take up less space in traffic and the other is that it gives a chance to keep the bikes engine cooler with a constant airflow over the engine.
Now , #1 check radiator coolant level, if low, top it off with coolant. #2 if the bike idles fine after "approx". 5-10 minutes ( normal operating temp)...and your not overheating, then continue to let it idle till it gets to "around" 185 degrees or so..if you don't hear the fan come on, then get on your bike and ride it around the block to cool the engine down, if that helped then you know its a bad fan, or bad thermostat/fan switch. The trail of water you saw could also have come from the coolant overflow tank hose at the bottom of the bike when it was overheating...make sure that the coolant reserve tank is filled to the appropriate level. Also check your oil to make sure that it doesn't have water in it..if it does...it"ll appear like a bubbly milkshake; if the oil is good, then chances are good that at least no internal damage was done. If after all this and it doesn't overheat and the fan comes on! then you"ll have to pull your fairings and check "all" the hoses for leaks. Hope this helps you out. The owner of the car should be able to check the oil fluid and coolant levels .get a clean peace of cloth.tools for removing trans axle /differential filing plugs. so that when the oil or fluid and coolant levels are checked they must be on desired levels.Locate the oil metering rod or dipstick and measure the lubricating oil level. Remove the transmission filler plug and check oil level. Remove differential oil filler plug and check oil level .Check fluid level .check coolant level.Observe all safety rules .Use the correct preventive maintenance procedures. If the owner can't do it then it is suggested that he should go to a car mechanic and the mechanic will do the job.

If this is a 3800, Upper Intake Plenum or Lower intake gaskets are an inevitability. Head gaskets on these engines rarely go out! Seriously, don't get duped. I am doing the job on my grand prix right now. Google it for further explanation.
