Hello Joe Hord and thank you for asking...

FUEL pump in the clear... That is IMPORTANT.

A bunch of things... but the smart money would be to beg,
borrow or BUY an ODB (diagnostic) reader...

SAVEs big money on TOTALLY POINTLESS guessing and TAMPERING that is likely to leave you with more TROUBLES than you started with (ending in pointless replacements of VERY
expensive OXYGEN-SENSORS... BECAUSE the "clown"
at the "auto-zone" says "hey Oxygen Sensors"...

Typically Oxygen Sensors (like THERMOMETERS) merely
report the NEWs...

Buying a new THERMOMETER is not going to get rid of a
COLD... (or the plague).

The real NEWS is likely a MUFFLER BAFFLE has come
loose or the CATALYTIC CONVERTER has given it's all...
and is now blocking the EXHAUST.

From what you describe... my memory of being round the
bend... That's my better guess:

I like guessing games as much as the next guy... but
INTRODUCING more troubles is more likely if you
take the EASTER-EGG approach.

Check to see if your local EXHAUST shop will do a
"FREE" diagnostic read...

"Burned up 4 alternators" isn't a very helpful description, so what went wrong? Diodes? Regulator? Stator windings? Rotor windings?

A basic self-contained machine sensed alternator is almost bulletproof when the wiring is good and secure but they aren't tolerant of surges and they will surge whenever a good connection with the battery is lost while at speed.
An intermittent connection could be anywhere in the supply or ground and although rare an internal break in a cable, a poor connection inside a crimped terminal or even a bad connection inside the battery.

If the alternator is a smart charging type it adds new fault possibilities to those above.

Remove the facotry headlight from the BMW. First remove the front panel cover below the headlight to access the bottom screw of the headlight housing. There is also two screws on the top of the housing.
Once you have remove the headlight, turn the headlight around and remove the bracket that holds the Ballast. Then remove the ballast using a philip screwdriver.
Unplug the wire from the ballast, and then remove the Xenon Plug from the housing. Put the Ballast aside.
Carefully remove the D2S Xenon Bulb from the factory housing. Once you have remove the bulb, transfer the bulb to the Spyder headlights.
Remove the bracket from the Spyder Headlight, and then install the ballast on the housing like the original. Once you have put the ballast on, put the bracket back on.
Remove the Panel Cover bracket from the original headlight to the new Spyder Headlights as shown here.
STEP:
Install the Spyder turn signal socket if the orignal does not fit, unplug the factory plug from the harness and plug the new one on.
Install the Spyder Headlight back on to the vehicle. Plug the Harness back on, the halo/L.E.D. Wires is connect to the Parking lights. These wires are optional to your vehicle, you do not have to wire them together.

Maybe your indicator relay.
I'd check on your car users manual for fuse and relay layout and check to see if the fault is there.

look up above your brake pedal and you will see the switch.. It will either between the firewall and the pedal arm (switch moves in when you brake).. Or it will be between the pedal arm and the dash (switch moves out when you brake)

Which engine is in it? Comment below and I'll try and find a diagram for it. First take lots of photos and notes before you start as reference for when you get stuck. (You will get stuck)! you might need to remove plastic guards, covers and some air intake pipes to gain access to some of the pulley wheels when putting the new one on. You will be working by feel only for some of this job so trace the route of the belt with your hand all the way around so you know where its supposed to go.
One of the pulleys the smooth side of the belt runs over is on a spring loaded tensioner arm. This needs to be swung against the spring to slacken the belt. Some engines have a slot or pair of holes you can line up and insert a pin to lock it in the 'slack' position. Again follow the belt around its whole length as you take it off to remind your self exactly where it goes. Fit the new one, this may take several attempts, and carefully release the tensioner.
A lot of companies recommend you change the tensioner as well. I agree as I've had one fail on me when my belt snapped. the tensioners just bolt into place and need to be fitted before you refit the new belt.
Once fitted, again trace it with your hand to check it is squarely set on all the pulley wheels, then start the car.
Then, KEEPING YOUR HANDS WELL CLEAR, look and check the belt is moving smoothly on all the pulleys you can see and not sliding from side to side. Check the dash board for any warning lights or messages and turn the engine off. Refit any pipes, guards and covers, recheck for any warning lights and messages on the dashboard and that should be job done!

For 2003-2006 X3 models, BMW specified an ever changing list of automatic transmission fluids (ATF) as these fluids became obsolete over time. The current recommendation from BMW is DEXRON-VI ATF, which means the fluid conforms to the GM DEXRON-VI specification.Feb 19, 2013

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM or ECM,ECU), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms.
