Low end backfire and slow acceleration

302 AWD 97' Explorer. When engine is cold, accelerates slowly and backfires if decelerating during a turn. Once RPM is above approximately 2500, the engine accelerates normally. The dash is displaying a check engine light and has a "small vacuum leak code" associated with the light.

SOURCE: Major Hesitation and backfiring

You most likely have a bad fuel pickup or a bad changeover switch if its dual tanks. Also like I have said before, one of the most common reasons for any fuel issue with this year is the fuel and wire connections on top of the tank that lead to every major part of your fuel system. No one wants to drop the tank or reach up and disconnect the switch to check. So I get these trucks for close to nothing from people like you and run them forever, after I spend a day replacing the needed wiring or pickup. to remove anything you must drop the tank or take a chance of breaking something. If you are uncomfortable doing this. I may be able to give detailed instructions. [email protected]

SOURCE: motor backfires when you slow down to go around

Your main problem could be anything from Timimg out by 2mm
problem with hole in exhaust system ,,or a gasket blown on the intake.
To much fuel getting in the engine and as you throttle back the extra fuel in the chambers fire without a spark.. with the heat of pistons
The way to check the exhaust is get someone to listen to the engine in park and you put on a glove and put your hand over the tail pipe and if the engine stops and cannot hear a whistle under the bonnet then the exhaust is ok
Let me know how you get on ASAP Ron

Poor idle and no acceleration on a '91 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton p/u w/4.3l v6 manual trans

there is vital information missing here
to start with it is a v 6 so there will be 2--HO2S sensors one for each bank before the cat converter and 2 --O2ensors --one for each bank after the cat converter
there is a vast difference between HO2s and O2 sensors as each reports different information to the ECM
next slow acceleration can be accelerator position sensor or throttle position motor
every time you read the codes it cancels them so you have to run the vehicle for a few miles for codes to reappear
from the codes there can be up to 7 reasons for that code to appear so you don't pick on the first one as it could be another or a combination of others

Loses power when it warms up

Hi Tyrone, More information would be good? does the vehicle backfire during acceleration or deceleration? Is the engine petrol or diesel? have a cylinder compression test carried out. To do this, remove either a spark plug or glow plug from each cylinder one at a time. Have someone inside the vehicle to crank the engine and keep a foot flat to the floor on the accelerator pedal. Crank the engine ten revolutions and take the reading. The reading should be around 90 to 110 lbs and not vary between cylinders more than about 8 lbs. If you have a variation greater, take an oil can and squirt twice into the combustion chamber. If the reading improves, the indication is worn rings. If the reading remains more or less the same, the indication is burned valves. The latter is more likely the cause of backfiring. Backfiring can also be caused by incorrect ignition timing. If the vehicle is fitted with points and condenser, a defective condenser can be the cause, but it is better to replace both at the same time. Hope this has been of some help. Regards John

Backfiring and miss in ford 4 liter

Hi Dwight, It would help to know more about your problem. What vehicle are you referring to? When does the backfire occur, during acceleration, deceleration, at a cruise speed, at idle? It would also help to know what vehicle, what engine and what fuel type? Regards John

95 chevy 1500 pops and backfires doesn't want to shift into overdrive when cold when it does the truck runs real rough

Have you checked the fuel pressure under a load, low pressure will cause these symptoms. The test port is on the top of the engine in the fuel supply rail to the fuel injectors, the fuel pressure test port looks like a large tire fill valve. You will need a fuel pressure test gauge to do this test (about $20), the pressure must be watched while you accelerate, it should never go down on hard acceleration just up about 6-8 PSI

Backfiring

The backfiring on deceleration is typically associated with a loose timing chain.

If you put a wrench on the harmonic balancer bolt, turn the balancer gently until you feel the chain tighten, then rotate the opposite way until it tightens, how far does is move.
If it goes more than an inch, it is getting sloppy. If it moves closer to 2 inches, it is worn out.
Try that first then let me know and we can go from there.
Good luck.

Constant backfire on deceleration 88 chevy 4.3 V 6

Check for exhaust leaks. Esp Leaks toward the front of the car. Hold your hand over the tail pipe using a rag and see where the loud hissing noise comes from. Repair the leaks and I bet the backfiring goes away

Good Luck
