Hi! Grounded wire for sure. Please check the wiring of the thermostat for this may be causing the ground. Please try removing the positive battery connector during the procedure to prevent accidents.

Change thermostat on 2005 pt cruiser

    • 1 Pop the hood and locate the thermostat. It's on the passenger side of the engine and has a plug leading into it.
    • 2 Unplug the thermostat housing from the engine block using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set. The housing will come off in your hand and then you can pull out the old thermostat.
    • 3 Scrape off the engine block and the thermostat housing's mounting surfaces with the gasket scraper. This is to ensure the replacement gasket seals correctly.
    • 4 Place the replacement thermostat into the engine block and place the gasket over the ends of the bolts in the thermostat housing to keep them aligned.
    • 5 Bolt the thermostat housing into the engine block using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set.

  • 1Open the hood and place a drain pan under the radiator drain valve.

  • 2Remove the radiator cap.
  • 3Open the radiator valve and let the coolant from the radiator drain.
  • 4Close the radiator valve once the coolant has finished draining.
  • 5Raise the front of the vehicle using a floor jack and safely support it on two jack stands.
  • 6Remove the engine under cover using a wrench or ratchet and socket.
  • 7Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing on the engine side using a pair of rib joint pliers, Phillips screwdriver or ratchet and socket, depending on type of clamp used on your particular model.
  • 8Unscrew the two thermostat housing mounting bolts using a ratchet and socket.
  • 9Remove the thermostat housing and thermostat unit from the vehicle.
Installing the Thermostat
  • 1Clean the thermostat housing and engine mating surfaces using a soft brush to avoid damaging the surfaces.
  • 2Set the new thermostat in place along with a new rubber ring. Make sure the thermostat spring points towards the engine and the jiggle pin faces upward.
  • 3Install the thermostat housing and start the two mounting bolts by hand to avoid damage to the threads.
  • 4Tighten the bolts using a ratchet and socket.
  • 5Install the lower radiator hose on the thermostat housing and tighten the clamp using a pair of rib joint pliers, Phillips screwdriver or ratchet and socket, depending on type of clamp used on your particular model.
  • 6Replace the engine under cover using a ratchet and socket.
  • 7Lower the vehicle.
  • 8Refill the cooling system with 50 percent water and 50 percent new anti-freeze. Pour the coolant through the radiator neck using a funnel if necessary.
  • 9Replace the radiator cap.
  • 10Refill the coolant reservoir with coolant, bringing the level between the Low and Full marks.
  • 11Start the engine and let it idle for about three minutes to bring the engine to operating temperature.
  • 12Check the coolant reservoir level and add if necessary to bring the level between the Low and Full marks.

1989 ford ranger thermostat replacment

First remove the bolts from the thermostat housing which is connected to the top hose on the radiator. Grasp the thermostat with either hand or pliers and remove, next use a scraper or wire brush to clean the surface on the engine and on the thermostat housing. Both surfaces need to be clear of debris, you should be able run finger accross surface and feel no bumps(it should be smooth). Then place the thermostat back in same orientation as old one came out and place gasket on thermostat housing (pay attention some gaskets have paper covering self adhesive). Place bolts through housing and gasket, thread the bolts into engine until finger tight then use socket to tighten snug but do not force tight.

Location of thermostat, and a diagram.what thermostat should be used for new england winter.1989 toyota land cruiser

For 1989 Toyota Truck Land Cruiser 4.0L FI 6cyl, check this diagrams, according with your Engine Code...

    zjlimited_179.jpg

Fig. 1: On, 3VZ-E engines the thermostat is located in the waterpump

Fig. 2: Exploded view thermostat and housing on the 1FZ-FE engine

    zjlimited_182.jpg

Fig. 4: Exploded view thermostat and housing on the 5VZ-FE engine

    To install:
    1. When installing a new thermostat always use a new gasket. Be sure that the thermostat is positioned with the spring down or into the housing. On 3VZ-E engines, the jiggle valve (looks like a small rivet in the edge of the thermostat) must be at the top or 12 o'clock position.
    zjlimited_183.jpg

Fig. 8: If used, the thermostat must be installed with the jiggle valve at the top

    1. Install the water inlet. Install the bolts finger-tight until the inlet is positioned exactly. Tighten the bolts to 10-14 ft. lbs. (13-19 Nm). Overtightening will break the ear off the housing and spoil your afternoon-don't do it.
    2. Install the hoses and wire connectors removed for access. Make certain the coolant hoses are not kinked or twisted after installation. Do not overtighten the hose clamps.
    3. Fill the cooling system with coolant.
    4. Start the engine and check for leaks. Top off any fluid levels.

How to replace the thermostat on a 1989 GMC Sierra

Drain the coolant (left lower side of the radiator) Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine, at the end of the hose is a metal housing, held down with 2 bolts, or 1 bolt and 1 stud. There may be wires going to one of the bolts, be sure these go back on. After taking the 2 bolts out, lift up the housing and the thermostat will be right there. Clean the old gasket from the manifold and the water outlet housing. Now install the thermostat, then the gasket. and torque down the bolts evenly. about 25-30 ft pounds. fill the radiator until about 2 inches below the filler neck, and start the engine, now keep putting coolant in to keep it 2 inches below the radiator neck, and let it warm up until you see coolant moving in the radiator, now fill it to the top and fill the coolant bottle to the cold mark. Its a good time to replace the radiator cap also. Good Luck.

    Running hot

Go to the rear of the engine and follow the lower radiator house it'll lead you to the Thermostat.

There is also a fan switch in the housing held on by two head bolts,be ever so careful not to break these bolts as well. There may be a wire to a 10 mm headed bolt that is the main ground to the PGM-Fi computer. Double check that it is connected when you are done ! Good luck
