My honda civic makes a noise while braking. Its not a screeching noise but more like soft knocking while I brake. Its seems to come from the rear wheels. What could be the problem? My car passed the NY State Inspection just yesterday and the Inspection Station didn't see any problems.

SOURCE: My problem relates to the

if the brakes light is on all the time, you may be low on brake fluid. Top up the brake master cylinder and see if the light goes out. If it doesn't go out, you may have air in your anti-lock brake system. This is very difficult to purge out and usually requires the dealer with a special brake system bleeding tool to do it.

SOURCE: emmision test failed?

It is possible that the scan tool that the shops are using, is powered independently from the OBD11 connector, but the testing station relies on the connector for power and if the fuse for it is blown, they get no data and you fail.
I've attached a picture of the connector and where you should see 12 volts. Get a test light and check this pin, if you have no power between this pin and ground, you either have a blown fuse or a wiring problem5243d31.jpg

HONDA CIVIC 2001 rear brakes put on new brakes they dont have a short shoe for emergancy brake i have adjusted them they make a light clunking noise and brand new drums on the rear this car is driving me...

Hi, When you adjust them they should have a light drag as the wheel spins. The E brake should be the same on both sides. As for the noise I hope you bought the OE (original equipment) brake shoes. The other brands will squeal. Good Luck

My brakes makes noise when start the car and stops after sometime

What type of sound is it first off? It could just be brake dust. Alot of people dont know that brake pads have a little metal piece on them thats sort of like a sensor, when the pads wear down past a certain point the little metal piece starts to scrap the rotor which will make a screeching noise. The more the pad wears down the louder and more annoying the sound becomes.

Screeching noise

bad brakes grinding against the rotors, or a bad wheel bearing.

Screeching noise

If your C/V joint is going bad it will make a nasty clicking sound and get louder the longer you leave it unattended. If this noise went away it could have been something stuck it the moving area of your wheel and just worked itself out.Keep an ear out for the noise to return,it it dosen't come back be happy.

CRV has knocking sound coming from rear passenger side

inspect the braking system for warped or uneven rotor surface, as this may cause this noise and uneven pad wear. CV joints also could cause this if the boots are torn, have insufficient grease, are damaged,or have worn bearings. Hopefully this helps

Severe knocking noise in left front wheel.

This could be several things. How are the brakes right now? I'm wondering if something wasn't tightened properly when you had work done on the car recently. You need to jack up the car and grab hold of the wheel and see if there is any play (looseness) when moved from top to bottom in and out, and front and back in and out. It could be a wheel bearing or cv joint, although with 52k it shouldn't be a problem. Pull the wheel to visually check for something obvious. Caliper secured properly, brake pads ok, etc. Some brake component may not have been properly tightened. Let me know what you find. Good luck.

Soft pedal,30 percent brakage

Air in Brake system need to be bled or master-cylinder is BAD. Noise in rear can be alot of different things NOT related to Soft pedal for example bent backing plate, wheel bearing etc. I would recommend removing brake drum and take a look at brakes in the rear contact if you need more help. Good Luck. Thanks for using FIX-YA
